So, should I see it now, when its in Chicago with good seats. Or wait till it hits NY where its going to be all corrected. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance
I would say both times. You could see its transofrmation....thats just me!
Smart thinking!
Sounds like you understand that it's a work in progress. If you go in with that in mind see it now. Especially if you say you can find good seats! If you prefer to see it more refined than wait until NY. Personally, I'd see it in both places if I could...anyone want to fly me to Chicago?

I try to never critique a show before I see it so this one is rough. I got a soundboard recording of Pirate Queen and I hated it! I know it is a work in progress and I pray they can fix it cause it's really not too good. I am a huge S&B fan. I saw Les Mis 63 times haha.
I say go see it. If only so you can say you did. Plus I would like to hear a review.
There are a few reviews out there already that you can search.

Don't know who gave you that soundboard recording. I assume they are tied to the show somehow. In which case, they must be really proud to know you've now publically crapped all over it. Good job.

Thanks!! Actually I did not get it from someone who has anything to do with the show. WHy don't you try reading my whole post. I realize it is still a work in progress. I know what I was listening to. I also know I have no yet seen the show. Go ahead and read it sweetie.
=)
First off, I'm NOT your sweetie.
Secondly, my point remains that if you have recordings that are given to you by someone involved with the show you probably shouldn't talk negatively about it. Especially if you're using your full name as your board name.
And the fact that you didn't get it from someone involved with the show doesn't make you much better, because now your talking trash about a recording you shouldn't have in the first place.

I am not talking trash. God are their any New Yorkers here? This is trashtalking? I said I did not like it. I dont think its good. I would hardly call that trash talking.
I chose to see it both times. I saw it during it's first week in Chicago and I am excited to see it in New York just to see how far it's come. I say go see it in Chicago if you have the chance. The performances are spectacular. You will be entertained.

if i could, i would see it both places
but i wont be going to Chicago anytime soon, so New York will be just fine :)
I don't see any reason not to comment about a recording you have of the show, unless you've been sworn to secrecy. You're probably better qualified to discuss the score than many of us, since you've been able to listen to it over and over again, as opposed to just hearing it once during a performance. I gather it hasn't grown on you.
As far as the original question (is it better to get great seats for a show still developing in tryouts or to wait for the finished version to hit Broadway) you have to consider these issues:
Is the ticket price a big financial outlay for you? Will you feel like you wasted a lot of money if the show doesn't seem polished? (This was a common complaint on the Chicago Tribune reader's board.) Can you appreciate great performances in a less than perfect setting? Having seen an early preview of Pirate Queen I can tell you that even though I hated the book and score I felt the incredible cast gave me my money's worth. Are you interested in having some insight into how a show is developed? Since Chicago gets a lot of out of town tryouts I was able to see early versions of Aida and The Producers, which I found fascinating. (Aida was horrible at first!) I would loved to have been able to see the early version of Wicked, even though I've heard it was way too long and had other problems.
Ciaron, Probably unwise to use your full name on the internet.

I think I'll buy them, I mean they're row B! But thanks for all your imput
Row B?! Definitely buy them! You will be in for a REAL treat!! I'm jealous.

Buy a cheap ticket and see it! There are many redeeming qualities of this show and Stephanie and the dancers just to name a few.

That's what I'm doing. I can't justify spending mucho dinero on a show that I may not love (especially because I'm trying to save money for a pilgrimage to NYC), so I'm getting a $30 ticket just so I can catch it before it leaves Chicago.

I'd definitely see it both places, in fact, I'm doing just that. I saw it this weekend, and I loved it. There are definitely things that need to be changed, but hey, that's what previews are for! It's got a beautiful score, IMO, and the cast is sensational.
WickedLauren - I'm so glad you enjoyed it! But then again... you already know that
