I just want to remind everyone that last year Kristin Chenoweth was a "lock", and look at what happened there...
It's a little different circumstances. Xanadu got overall better reviews than The Apple Tree (despite many raves for Chenoweth). Not to mention, The Apple Tree had long been closed come Tony time and the Xanadu producers are making sure that it stays open by the nominee announcements. Also, Legally Blonde was all about Laura Bell Bundy-she was onstage for 95% of the show. Her nomination was a surprise, but not entirely "out there". Gonzalez's role isn't nearly as massive, and her nomination would certainly be considered "out there". Sure, we all thought that Chenoweth was a lock, but in hindsight, Butler's nomination seems much more evident. Gonzalez would get a nom if the category needed a filler slot. But it doesn't.
Debra Monk in a Featured role also took a slot away from Chenoweth, who was clearly the lead in APPLE TREE.
Still, Kerry is a sure thing. They won't wrong her a third time.
I agree on you Yankee on the nominations...except Stew...he will get for BEST SCORE...
Okay the winners... I am predicting:
Lead Actress- Patti LuPone
Lead Actor- Daniel Evans
I truly believe that they will distribute the awards on the Revival Musicals- meaning:
Best Revival- South Pacific
Both Actress for LuPone & Benanti for Gypsy
for Sunday...I think the Lead Actor will go to Evans and Best Scenic Design.

I don't think Kristin was ever a lock...between her, Idina, Donna, Tonya...even Stephanie...there were a lot of wonderful women that year.
We're talking about last year, sweetie.
Keep up.
APPLE TREE, not WICKED.
And we're talking locks for NOMINATIONS, not wins.
After his reviews, I would not be at all surprised if Paolo Szot won Best Actor in a Musical.
Lin- Manuel Miranda will win Best Actor in a Musical.
In the Heights really feels like an ensemble show in which no one is the lead. Mandy Gonzalez probably has the most lines of anyone and probably deserves consideration as a lead, but Usnavi is not a very big part and feels peripheral to what I feel is the main storyline (Mandy Gonzalez's story). I think Lin-Manuel Miranda has a shot at winning as Lead Actor, but if he wasn't the main creative force behind the show, his chances of winning would be much lower. (I think he is a lock for a nomination in that category.)
I can't believe they kept James Earl Jones and Phylicia Rashad to be considered for the leading role categories. This will not only hurt the chances of the two of them being nominated, but also the chances of Anika Noni Rose getting a nod in such a crowded category.
Ray, they didn't deal with CAT today.
"Those productions included Passing Strange, The Little Mermaid, In the Heights, Sunday in the Park with George, The 39 Steps, November and Come Back, Little Sheba. The committee's rulings follow."
Those were the only shows they did today.
CAT will be taken care of next time.
Ooops.
Ignore bitchy comment then
Thanks for letting me know, Foster. I just assumed that since CATS opened a while ago, they had dealt with it at this meeting. Next time I'll read the whole thing.

Now that Laurie Metcalf (November, by David Mamet) has been put in the featured and not in the lead actress category, does she have a chance at a tony nomination, or is the field too crowded?? (If Kate Fleetwood (for her Lady Macbeth in Macbeth) is ruled featured instead of lead, I think she will win a tony).
Re: Kate Fleetwood's possible nomination.
I have an inkling she will be nominated for Leading Actress. Her performance when I caught the production (front row center, this past Wednesday evening) was SPECTACULAR.
For those interested, a review is in the works...
STAY TUNED!
Best,
- Mike
Hopefully Fleetwood will be featured, where she would probably win. She's below the title, so they'll have to petition her as a lead if they want. But, I don't think she could beat some of the heavy hitters who will be nominated for lead, but could win in the featured category.

"James Earl Jones of Cat On a Hot Tin Roof?"
He's above the title, so he is can be considered for Best Actor.

Just curious, do you guys think that the men of Glory Days will all be in the leading category?
From what I understand there is only one solid lead role in GLORY DAYS. If the producers are smart, they will petition at least one of the actors for the leading category and then let the other three compete for the featured categories.
Glad to see that Mermaid can be nominated for score, too bad that it shouldn't be, good that it probably won't.

Going back a bit, would the producers have had to petition Jackie Hoffman and Mary Testa for a joint nomination, or is that up to the Tony Committee to decide?
Mungo-I was wondering the same thing. I think they must petition for it. I think they should share a nomination.
Also-I think Kerry Butler will indeed receive the Tony nod over Mandy Gonzalez.
it'll be:
Kerry Butler
Patti LuPone
Faith Prince
Jenna Russell
Kelli O'Hara
Best Actor
Paul Szot
Lin-Manuel Miranda
Stew
Tom Wopat
Daniel Evans
with the possibility that Tom Wopat is either put in featured (hasn't opened yet, so no ruling), and Cheyenne Jackson gets nominated.
And Best Actress is much tighter this year than last. (it's a tough call)
And I don't think Lin-Manuel Miranda will win best actor. I think Szot or Evans will. (ITH will probably win best musical. That's Miranda's prize.)
