I thought it was disappointing - and definitely shocking - night overall.
Highs:
Idina's Win
Avenue Q as best musical
Hugh's peformance
Avenue Q's performance
Lows:
Raul Esparza losing
Boy George losing
Wicked's performance

The best part of the night was definitely when AQ won. It was just amazing! I also loved their performance. When Idina won, I was also very happy. Low points would be Idina's performance and Tonya's squeaking and hoarse-ness. When I realized Assassins won the most Tonys this year, I was also very happy.

Posted: 6/6/04 at 11:06pmThe night was very aspiring. Seeing all of the people so happy and with tears in their eyes...I just know I will be up there WITH tears in my eyes. Just think, that is the gold medal for acheiveing your dream and those people, along with everyone nominated, did it.

Highs:
- Avenue Q winning and performance(and Fallon's intro)
- Hugh's performance (SJP... 'I should leave')
- Rashad, Mays, and Menzel's acceptance speeches
- The Urinetown explaination of THE RULES.
Lows:
- Mary J. Blige
- The Wicked performance could've been better.
- Caroline, or Change should've chosen another song.
- The awkwardness of the I Am My Own Wife acceptance speech. I may agree with the sentiment, but it was so poorly framed and timed.

I could not wait for this thread, so I could let loose with some bullets. For the purpose of tonight... let's call it a tribute to Assassins .
From now on I promise to only use them when totally necessary. Or to annoy.

Highs:
-Idina's win
-Hugh Jackman's performance and hosting, muchhh better this time around.
-Rashad's win and speech
Lows:
-Ave. Q's winning Best Musical
-Wicked's performance. A huge disappointment compared to what can be seen 8 times a week at the Gershwin..
-Wonderful Town's performance. And with Murphy losing the Tony, this show is most likely on it's last leg. Tour or no tour.

-Wicked's performance
-Jimmy Fallon
-Wonderful Town's performance
-Plum, hopping up and down with happiness. This was a fine ceremony.

HIghs: everything,really--initially i was a little surprised with the wicked performance (aka-a bit confused at why it wasnt as good as it had been the times a saw it in the gershwin) but I just watched it again, and now i think that it was still really good--I think that people who havent seen the show or dont know the music would probably enjoy it more, since they didnt have any expectations.
I didnt really love the WT performance-but thats just because Swing isnt my favorite number in the show--nothing against the cast.
Idina winning was definitly the highlight of the show for me--she was just so genuinly happy, seemed somewhat surprised, and was truly so graceful in thanking Kristin too, I thought that it was a great moment for everyone (and Taye was sooo cute!)
my thoughts to chew on!

-assassins being the most winner this year and the performance
-hugh jackman give the man another show after BFO
-Idina's acceptance speech
-WT performance (when i saw the show it was without donna so it was a privelidge)
Low lights(which werent much)
-Wicked on Tv is awkward(do you think you can see that strap if you are in the first few rows. I was in row O when i saw it. and the mics were oddly placed)
-Fiddler's reworking of tradition which was the first act with everything but the wedding dance cut out
funny moment of the year
-"Jennifer Westedfeltedtedt" Gotta love a Billy Joel who can't read!
