Forgive me if this has already been discussed in one of the other Spongebob or Tony Awards threads (and for that matter, I also apologize for yet another Spongebob thread), but how do we think the Tony awards will rule with regards to the score? On one hand, it is quite obviously an original score, with only a 2 pre-existing songs. But this is what I wonder:
Is there a maximum number of people who are allowed to share a nomination, and would Spongebob exceed that cap? I'm reminded of Matilda, where the 4 girls sharing the lead role were disqualified because none of the individual actresses met the minimum number of weekly performances to be eligible, and they were therefore all deemed ineligible. Is there an equivalent rule for the creative team categories? Does a composer have to have written a certain percentage of the score to be eligible?
Many producers are nominated for shows. They would all be nominated.
I imagine all those that provided original content will be eligible.
Howard Ashman And Tim Rice did not provide any new material to Aladdin and yet were nominated for the Tony for Original Score.
Shows like Working and Urban Cowboy have had numerous songwriters nominated, so I imagine that should the score for SpongeBob be deemed at least 51% original (which it will be), then all the credited songwriters will be eligible for the nomination.
Actually, the Tony committee recently decided that if the score gets nominated, I will be the representative nominee for them all.
