Well, I think Color Purple, Drowsy, and Wedding Singer will be nominated just be cause of their uniquness. But Tarzan? Maybe by default cause I can't think of anything else that's really deserving of filling the spot. Maybe if Lestat's score gets praised. Or maybe because its Elton John. But in the past, Disney shows never really had the best of scores. And from what I hear, Tarzan's isn't anything to write home about.
As I said, the score sucks, but the Tony Awards are all for money. If a big hit show produced by a huge company is nominated oposed to a smaller show or one that closed or a flop, money is bound to come in some way.

It really should be WIW as the winner. The Color Purple's score is so uninteresting to me. I coudn't stand the singing, the music, or orchestrations. I tried to the listen to the whole CD but couldn't get through one song without wanting to pass out. So I didn't buy it.
If Tarzan gets that last slot, I will freak out.
Yes, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE can join the likes of AVENUE Q and URINETOWN as being absolutely original and unique, but both Q and URINETOWN weren't just original - they were quality. Wonderfully written, brilliantly conceived, and both had/have thorough direction with a clear vision and a message. Both were huge gambles - yet they succeded remarkably, and deservedly so.
THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, as I've said before, is certainly unique and original and deserves praise for just that, but it's nothing like the afformentioned shows - not even close.
Shows don't win award or praise for being original or unique - PRYMATE was original and unique - it just has to be GOOD.
As I am listening to WIW, I am seriously thinking it deserves the Tony for best score. Who cares what ALW has done in the past? That doesn't matter now, and I think he has written the best score of the season. TCP just sounds like recycled R&B numbers from the 80s/early 90s, Tarzan and TWS offer nothing new or interesting in their scores, and I haven't heard the score to The Drowsy Chaperone but I understand it's a weak one. It deserves to go to The Woman in White.
My favorite score of the year is THE WEDDING SINGER - it's just fun - but not award worthy.

Amen Munk. Although, I don't think we've heard the score before. Its an 80s fused pop score. Its like nothing else on Broadway right now, at least in my opinion. I think it will be Color Purple or Wedding Singer. Wedding Singer is just an upbeat fun score, something that will be stuck in many Cd players once it comes out.
