Well, John C. Reilly and Philip Seymour Hoffman switched the roles of Austin and Lee in TRUE WEST nightly and both got nominations.
Robert Cuciolli (sp?) had an alternate in JEKYLL and got a Tony nomination.

Posted: 6/8/08 at 9:26pmwell, this might not be what you meant, but Patti LuPone won a Tony for a role that had an alternate: Eva Peron. but they didn't split the role equally: Patti went on for the 6 evening shows, and Terri Klausner, her alternate, went on for Wednesday and Saturday matines.

Posted: 6/8/08 at 10:11pmPatti was the only winner, I believe, to perform 6 performances a week, but Lea Salonga had an alternate for Saturday matinees while in Miss Saigon.

nope, they cast an alternate during the London run because Elaine Paige was ruining her voice singing the show 8 performances a week. they were "smart" and cast an alternate for Patti's production to make sure the same thing didn't happen again.
