I realize that this is not very timely, but wanted to post it before the awards are given out tonight and it becomes even less timely!

The Producers, which co-holds the record for most nominations ever with 15, was nominated in every Musical category except for Leading Actress. Billy Elliot, which co-holds the record for most nominations ever with 15, was nominated in every Musical category except for Leading Actress.

Matthew Warchus directed 2 nominated performances from the same production in the Leading Actor in a Play, Leading Actress in a Play, Featured Actor in a Play and Featured Actress in a Play categories, and of course has 2 nominations himself.

Other double nominees this year are Lee Hall (book and score, Billy Elliot), Paul Arditti (sound for Mary Stuart and Billy Elliot), Dale Ferguson (sets and costume, Exit the King), Kevin Adams (lighting, Hair and Next to Normal), Brian Yorkey (book and score, Next to Normal), Tom Kitt (orchestrations and score, Next to Normal), and David Lindsay-Abaire (book and score, Shrek)

This is the third year in a row in which all of the actors in a production are nominated (2009-God of Carnage; 2008-Thurgood; 2007-The Year of Magical Thinking). Putting aside the one-performer shows for a second, this is the first time all the actors in a production have been nominated since Doubt in 2005.

Another interesting piece of trivia about God of Carnage: I am not sure that any other show has ever had 4 acting nominees in leading categories before.

Of the 8 shows nominated for Best Musical and Best Play, 2 are London transfers, 4 were originally produced Off-Broadway, 1 (33 Variations) was produced regionally twice, with much the same creative team but a very different cast, and only 1 (Shrek) was produced in the "traditional" fashion of out-of-town tryouts then moving straight to Broadway.

The only winners from last year who are nominated this year are 3 people who won for South Pacific and are nominated in the same category this year for Joe Turner (Bartlett Sher, Michael Yeargan, and Scott Lehrer), Kevin Adams (won last year for The 39 Steps, nominated this year for Hair and Next to Normal), and Andy Blankenbuehler (won last year for choreographing In the Heights, nominated this year for 9 to 5). Kevin Adams also won in 2007 for Spring Awakening, so he has the potential to win for 3 years in a row.

Rob Ashford, Natasha Katz, and Catherine Zuber, who were all nominated for each of the last 3 years (actually 4 for Catherine Zuber), have their streak broken this year.

I believe Horton Foote and Hallie Foote are the only relatives nominated this year.

The oldest nominee would have been Horton Foote if he had not passed away earlier this year at age 92. I am guessing Angela Lansbury at age 83 is the oldest. Either Trent Kowalik or David Bologna is the youngest. There are teenagers nominated in 3 of the 4 Musical acting categories (Jennifer Damiano being nominated for Featured Actress).

If either Jane Fonda or Geoffrey Rush wins the Tony tonight, they will be triple crown winners...The Oscar, Emmy and the Tony...Good Luck to both of them. I got to see them both.

I would like to know if there's an official record for the longest amount of time between wins for a performer. I'd assume it was Patti LuPone, for the 28 years between Evita and Gypsy, but if Angela Lansbury wins, it'd be 30 years since she won her last Tony for Sweeney Todd.

By the way, also in 2005, every actor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was nominated (and Bill Irwin won, of course).
