If John Cullum doesn't get a nom for Featured Actor, I'll probably cry. Or something.
I don't think you will be crying.
Well he may not be a queen, per se, but he certainly doesn't have any more authority than Paul Wontorek over at Broadway.com who thinks he's the next Michael Riedel just because he purchased a domain name.

Amy I the only person who thinks that Poppins will get an orchestrations nom?
Well I don't know if you're the only one, but you're certainly in the minority.

GREY GARDENS
SPRING AWAKENING
LOVEMUSIK
THE PIRATE QUEEN

I guess I am in the minority. I've thought since I first heard the cast album in early 2005 that they were some of the best I've heard in years as far as orchestrations go.

Steve Kazee???
You have to be kidding.
and the book of SPRING may get a nom but it is just a
"cut and paste" of the original and should not get a nom.

The orchestrations on the London cast recording are much more extensive than those used for the Broadway production. So if you're going on what you hear on there, then you're not making an accurate judgment.
CPD, I actually enjoyed Steve Kazee's performance. Also, to whomever said that Legally Blonde was more fun but not a better musical than Mary Poppins, well, I think the fact that it was more fun DID make it a better musical. At least better than MP.

What's your damage?
You can't just say you disagree, or offer your predictions?
Mark is no queen - and a highly intelligent guy who, if you have gone to his site and also oscarcentral (his other one) you'll note his predictions are based on several factors and have typically been quite accurate when all is said and done.
I'm not saying he's the end all, be all.. but he's not some random "queen" with a domain name.
How would you feel if someone responded to your posts with "who cares what you, some theater queen, thinks?"
Treat others as you would like to be treated - it's a pretty good rule of thumb, dontcha think?
gumbo: did you think Kazee's voice was good?
In his Big number THE RAIN SONG the audience was actually gringing during the money notes.
And did you think he looked sexy in that outfit?
usually STARBUCK appears topless after Lizzie and He have their moment, but they didn't dare go there.
I do think. I was mainly questioning the validity of the site and its predictions because of the fact that there are misspellings up the wazoo, which in my opinion, takes away from the credibility of the site. I don't know who the man is. I have never met him, and never claimed to have. My opinion was based on a quick glance at the predictions listed on the site.

The orchestrations heard on the Poppins CD sound very close to those used on Broadway and in England, almost indentical. Unfortunately my programs for both versions of the show are not with me and I can't compare their orchestras. I believe that they were identical however. On the CD there might be an extra brass or wind instrument doubling a part already being played and a couple of more keyboards, but these aren't the parts that make the orchestrations great. The orchestrations are great for their sparseness in points (think the first verse of
"spoonful" with its use of bass, cello, muted trumpet, flute, and guitar), unique pairings of instruments, and use of piano and cello. New life was really breathed into these olds songs whilst maintaining their feel.
clarkstallings, the source of my comment on the difference in orchestrations was Seth Rudetsky, who mentioned at one of his seminars last year that the MARY POPPINS orchestra in New York would have almost no strings section and would be significantly further minimized from those in the London mounting.
CPD, yes I did think Kazee's voice was good. Maybe you saw him on an off night or something? I actually especially remember his money note in The Rain Song as being very strong and pure.
I'll agree with you on the outfit, it was a weird choice, and the long hair was kind of *eh*, but is that his fault? I thought he did a great job in all of his scenes, creating a believable, deep character that Audra could really play off of. Their scenes together were some of the most fun to watch.

There were indeed a handful of spelling corrections needed. I believe I've caught them all and made the necessary corrections at TonyCentral.com. My apologies for that. I certainly feel the same way as WBF about other sites with spelling issues. Queen I'm not, though. :)
I've been making theatre related predictions based off of a very different sort of factors than most others that has proven more consistently accurate than most others over many years. That doesn't mean I'll do well this year, though. That's what makes it so interesting from year to year.
As well, thanks for backing me up, Craig.Long time no talk!
Good luck to all potential nominees and predictors alike...

One more quick edit - Lea Michele's last name only has one L, which your site doubles. Interesting predictions!

Fixed. Thanks, Scott.

Thanks Mark.
I realize that you just gave your pics for the nominations. You don't have to justify these to anyone, regardless of their angry-bitchy-theater diva rants.
I appreciated the read. Looking forward to today's announcement.
Gumbo ~ I agree with you. I've found Kazee to be very much ON the two times I've seen 110. And he brings a certain charm to Starbuck that I find adorable. :)
