1. Assassins - Was my first Sondheim show and it blew my mind...
2. Forum - My second Sondheim show and the fact that the same person could write two shows so different blew my mind even further.
3. Company - It's a classic, punto e basta.
4. (Tie) Follies and Sunday - Follies for the overall concept, Sunday for the overwhelming beauty.
5. Anyone Can Whistle - I love this show like a father loves his weakest child.

The first thing that attracts me to a song (be it theatre, rock, country, etc.) is the music. Although Sondheim is a brilliant lyricist (the best the theatre has known), I'm attracted first to his music. If we were to take away his lyrics and had only his music, his best, most melodic scores, in my opinion, are:
1. Sweeney Todd
2. A Little Night Music
3. Company
4. Follies

It depends very much on which productions of Sondheim's work you see. My list is heavily influenced by the British productions of the past decade.
1. COMPANY (best production EVER at Donmar Warehouse)
2. LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC (Dame Judy Dench at the National)
3. PASSION (Broadway)
4. FOLLIES (West End)
5. SWEENEY TODD
But of nearly all shows I've also seen pretty awful productions. The shows most in my cd player? Follies and Company.
