Is Gypsy really a "Sondheim Show"?

I don't count Gypsy and West Side Story as "Sondheim shows."

1. sweeney- pretty much speaks for itself. some of the most impressive music and the acting and vocals are put together so skillfully, along with sunday, shows off his absolute brilliance in all aspects
2. sunday- his most beautiful music and such a good piece
3. assassins- wonderful book, i never was bored along with themes and subjects that are so fascinating and not mishandled at any step
4. passion- the story is so different from his other works, and was done differently. out of most of his work, we gradually catch on to his recurring touch to things, but this seemed like it wasnt even done by him and i liked it as a fresh change
5. company- just love company. cant decide why i like it so much, but its better than a lot of his, other work like pacific o's and into the woods
edit: i decided to elaborate as to why they are where they are on my list. not including gypsy and west side.
Wow...this is an impossible one.
As much as I love all of his shows, some have book problems that I cannot ignore, so I will judge only the scores...
1. Sweeney
2. Follies
3. Night Music
4. Company
5. Pacific Overtures or Sunday...my brain hurts from trying to decide.

I always but an * next to Gypsy and West Side Story when nameing Sondheim shows.
Sweeney Todd
A Little Night Music
Follies
Company
Assassins
That was almost as hard as my thread for picking favorite Sondheim songs. At least there's no gun involved this time! :)

"West Side Story" and "Gypsy" don't count... also: these are in no particular order... also: I should mention that I'm not familliar with Follies, and am therefore living in sin. I swear: it will be the next cast recording I buy. Actually, I'm not familliar with Merrily either, because I've been advised to wait until the remastered recording comes out to buy it.

I'm getting really upset reading this thread b/c a lot of people didn't write down assasins which I think is ingenious on Sondheim's part. Yeah, Into the Woods, Sweeny, and Follies are great, but Assasins is just so original and amazing....then again, maybe I'm just a little obsessed....
#1. Sunday
#2. Sweeney
#3. Anyone can whistle
#4. Follies
#5. Saturday Night
Let's not forget about early Sondheim. I.E # 3 and 5
While not forgotten, I don't think his earlier work is as high quality as most everything after.
I definitely don't count GYPSY and WSS at all.

definately, but there are some really great gems in his early career: the kind of playful things you don't find later on. I love every single show, don't get me wrong!!

God, it's like Sophie's Choice over here. Well, here goes...
1.) Sweeney Todd
2.) A Little Night Music
3.) Company
4.) Passion
5.) Assassins
But seriously, it IS so hard to choose because they're all really diverse and incredible. I would have a better time narrowing it down the the top 10 shows.
In terms of best writing?
1. Sweeney Todd
2. A Little Night Music
3. Company
4. Into the Woods
5. Sunday in the Park with George

2. Follies
3. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
4. Sunday in the Park with George
5. Assassins
Those are definitely my top five.
The next tier includes, in no particular order:
A Little Night Music, Company, Into the Woods, Merrily We Roll Along
And the third tier (although, it's Sondheim third tier, which is like someone else's first), in no particular order:
Anyone Can Whistle, Bounce, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Pacific Overtures
Lyric-wise:
Gypsy - somewhere floating above the top tier, just above Passion
West Side Story - depending on the song, somewhere between the second and third tier
