IMHO....
1. Idina Menzel(finally winning the Tony she deserved back in 1996)
2. Cheyenne Jackson (getting to originate a broadway leading character)
3. Audra McDonald(for winning her......forgot the number :)....Tony)
This will most likely be deleted but lets see other people's opinion's.

Accomplished? What does that mean?
Understudy Joined: 11/7/04
Acomplished meaning something the person did(or have gotten), that would give them deserved recognition(deserved the key word.)
Not in order:
1. Raúl Esparza
2. Idina Menzel
3. Michael Arden

And you're sticking Cheyenne Jackson in there? Really? For taking over a role when the original leading man couldn't agree on contract terms? No offense to Jackson- I know nothing about him- but that isn't a huge accomplishment in my eyes.
As long as we're picking based on hormones, stick Hugh Jackman in there, for winning every acting award possible, and a dancing one, too, not to mention hosting the Tonys and carrying BFO to profitability on his back without missing a single performance.
I guess in terms of Cheyenne, it's just the big break that's he's been waiting for - and that's been a long time coming for him. He really deserves this, but I'm not sure that I'd say he's "most accomplished." I feel like this is really a rather large matter of opinion....

There's luckiest, and most accomplished. The two are intertwined- to an extent you make your own luck- but not identical. Updated On: 11/7/04 at 12:54 AM

I totally agree with Plum! :0)
I'm sorry, but Idina just doesn't do it for me like she used to. Her performance at the Tonys...shall we even go there?
I might agree with Audra winning her 4th Tony, and certainly Hugh as well.
How about Nathan Lane; going from The Frogs in NY to The Producers in London and then shooting The Producers movie while not in perfect health is quite a large feat.

Yup, I'll agree on Lane. Roger Bart, too, for coming into The Frogs so quickly.

I'm going to second MNIL's post. I agree with all three.
Raul Esparza for The Normal Heart. Acting like I have never seen before.
Idina Menzel for winning her Tony. I think she deserved it and her speech made me want to give her 1,000 more.
and Michael Arden, so much talent in such a young man. A few months ago, I had no idea who he was and now, he's everywhere.
By the way, MNIL-Just now when I saw your icon I practically fell off my chair. LOVE IT! What a guy! And your signature is too cute as well! Thanks for making me feel better!
I'm glad I made you feel better, that's what I'm here for!
Hugh Jackman.
This was his year. No doubt.

Is Cheyenne the only person this year who has landed new roles on Broadway? What about Eden, Ramona, Sutton, Maureen, Norbert, John, Sheri, etc.?
And what about those twelve angry men I keep hearing so much about? Philip Bosco, Boyd Gaines, etc.
Is landing the role in a jukebox musical of Elvis tunes really an accomplishment in acting? Maybe. But we won't know for sure until 2005.
How bout Hunter Foster, starring in two Broadway musicals? Tonya Pinkins, creating a Tony nominated turn on Broadway?
And of course, acting does include TV and film, right? How bout Nicole Kidman?

"1. Idina Menzel(finally winning the Tony she deserved back in 1996)" I totally agree. She wom and I cried, so she's my number one.
2. jefferson Mays. I read the play, but didn't get a chance to see it. Even so, he was great. (As per my friend)
3. Jennifer Laura Thompsom for stepping into those really big shoes she had to fill and filling them perfectly.
Runner up: Adam Pascal for the 4 or 5 shows in 2004 he did of Cabaret before it closed.

Hugh Jackman -
for the extraordinary display of triple threat talents, winning every award on offer, including the TONY and the DISTINGUISHED PERFORMER awards.
for the Herculean task of carrying THE BOY FROM OZ on his shoulders to its sellout closure.
for the strong professional discipline which was exemplary - no absences in a very physically demanding role and even nursing a stress foot fracture in the last 5 months of the run.
for giving Broadway its due during the whole time he was involved ( TONY hosting 2003 and 2004, Broadway Cares most winning fundraising campaign, TONY honors hosting, ACTORS EQUITY rally, etc.).
for the stagedoor patience and graciousness he displayed despite the craziness at the Imperial stagedoor.
Now, that was a compleat Broadway actor for you!
****************
Sadly, Hollywood has claimed him once again from the stage.

Jefferson Mays - I would have to say "I am my Own Wife" is my favorite play of 2004 thus far - primarily because of his amazing performance. I get chills up my spine just thinking about him.
And I'll go with Hugh Jackman for being the one shining spot in 'A Boy from Oz' and Audra McDonald, because I simply love her.
