Touring Phantom John Cudia's Phantom Make Up

WOW! Scary? Mannequin-ish? Whatever... I assure you John is as normal and handsome as anyone you'd love to meet and an impressive Phantom.

In the last picture, he looks like someone from Taboo.

Before I realized the last picture was in a mirror, I thought poor John was getting his makeup taken off because some moron put it on the wrong side of his face...

John is pretty much awesome! Gotta love him!

...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...

You mean Broadway as of 1988?

In my opinion, he has one of the better U.S.A. Phantom "looks." Most Phantoms are done up a little awkwardly, John's is very original for America and fulfilling.

Thank you for post.

You know what I just wondered?

What if, heaven forbid, something happened mid-show and the actor playing the Phantom couldn't continue the performance? Do they hold the show for however long it takes for the understudy to get put into makeup or is there a "quickie version"?

no, they make a preshow announcement and say "we are sorry the guy is ill, but be happy you won't be tortured anymore".

These days the only people who go see the show WANT to see it, though. So...you've become redundant. ttyl.

I think the understudy can perform most of it with the mask on and no makeup underneath, and then they quickly do something to him, but I'm not sure what.

^It doesn't happen too often, but it does...

London now has a standby Phantom at the ready, but I'm not too sure if he has the makeup on during the show.

I wonder about the makeup thing too...I mean they must do something, and I doubt they would make the standby put on makeup every day...or do they?

If something happened to the Phantom while he was onstage, they would just have to stop the show the way any other show would stop if, say, their lead tripped over a giant candelabra and broke a clavicle...they would get the standby ready in that time, I suppose.

If something happened at a time when the Phantom is offstage, I guess the crew would have to improvise based on what point of the show it was--but there are a number of long stretches in the show where the Phantom doesn't even have to be onstage, so those would be perfect for preparing the standby's makeup without having to hold everything else up. If they needed to, they could really just do it little by little throughout...he doesn't need it fully ready until "The Point of No Return" anyway.
