Does anybody know if there are any plans to stage Tracey Letts' Bug in LA or San Francisco?

I am betting that the playwright is withholding rights of production until he gets an offer from a major equity house.

I wonder how long it will take for LA to see this play.... Paula Vogel's masterpiece "The Baltimore Waltz", for example, has NEVER been staged in the Los Angeles area. Ms. Vogel has refused time and time again to grant the LA premiere rights of production to small non-equity theatres.

Actually they just announced the film version is about to go into production with Ashley Judd and Michael Shannon (from the OOBC). I imagine that Letts has pulled the rights for LA and SF until after the film comes out.

Not sure about Vogel relationship with LA theatres. A friend who was artistic director of a non-Equity theatre in Seattle did the west coast premiere of her "Hot N'Throbbing" several years ago (which I believe she attended) so I know she doesn't have any bias against non-Equity theatres.

Ashley Judd? Really?

Um...well, at least she'll have good material to work with.

I really don't think Ashley Judd has the intensity for a role like Agnes, even if this is a movie (where you have ample opportunity to get it right) and not theatre.
