Do any of you have any traditions when seeing a Broadway show? A place you like to eat dinner before or desert after?
Before I moved to NYC, whenever I would visit we would go some place like Ollie's Noodle Shop on 44th and Broadway or Cafe Edison for a cheap dinner and then after we got out of the show we would go to Rocco's Bakery down on Bleeker off West 4th for desert.

we usually always go eat before hand, somewhere on 8th avenue...we also stop at the Theatre Circle Store on 44th...just to get all pumped up lol

Uh...does taking the same bus to the city every time count as tradition?
I wash all my nooks and crannies (sp?) just in case I get lucky.
Theater Circle is such an awesome store! I was just there on Saturday and we found the script to The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public. For a show that lasted two weeks on bway, I was suprised to see it there on the shelf.
Does anyone know of any other great broadway stores? I am looking for little playbill binders that hold like 20 per binder. My shelf is getting crowded and I'd like the playbills to be covered by something.
Also, where is a good store to go to for souvenir programs of past shows? They had some in theater circle, but only brooklyn and wicked.
If one exists, I would love to know of a store that sells theater posters. I am looking to buy Carrie...even though I know it's going to cost me something like $200 bucks.
Thanks!
um...I usually walk on the same sidewalks from my apartment.
And don't forget referring to everything as crap.
No, I just have very high expectations. Not everything is crap! And I don't WANT things to be crap. But it just turns out that every show to open this season so far has been garbage, except for a few. I'm not an easy audience member.

Yes, there's other buses to choose from. :) The one I take provides the ideal balance between wanting to get to the box office early and wanting to sleep as much as possible.

Unfortunately, I've been so busy at work lately that I end up working till a few minutes before the show starts and running to the theater right before curtain.

Playbill sells binders to hold your playbills. I have only been able to cram about 14-16 per binder. They have upscale ones that come with protectors to slip the playbills in. I have the "poor man's" version with no protectors.
Hope that helps
I wait at the stage door afterwards to meet the cast. Also, when I get Rush seats, and I physically have them in my hand, I do a little happy dance.
My only tradition: I always arrive 30 minutes early. Anyone travelling with me knows going in that I will be there 30 minutes before the show starts and must plan accordingly.
It's the same for movies.
Lateness should be a felony.

Triton Gallery is the place for theatre posters. I can't remember exactly where it is-- 323 West 44th I think. They have an online store too (which is wonderful) www.Broadwayposters.com but the real fun is if you go there a few times and are lucky enough to be allowed into the back room where they have the "Collectible" posters & showcards. It's like visiting the worlds coolest theatre museum, but all the exhibits are for sale.

If I am seeing A Matinee and Evening, I go to The Playwright on 49th Street.
Hehe..John Popa gets there 30 min. early. I usually get there 30 seconds early. I can't stand to wait for anything. I'll stand in the lobby, drink champagne and mingle until the ushers close the doors and give me 'the look.'
Same here, Princeton. I can't sit and wait, or wait on line to get in the theatre. It's pointless, I'd rather be rushing to the theatre late than standing in one spot waiting for everyone to get to their seats (which seems to take longer and longer everytime I see a show.)
Triton Gallery is across from the Hirschfeld Theatre in W45th St.
I'm totally like John Papa: I'm usually about 40 minutes early. I'm anal retentive and perpetually early to everything. Latecomers should be strung up in front of the theatre.

I am there WELL before the doors even opne - I dunno why...
I'm the same way. I can't wait to get to the theatre. I can't wait for the doors to open. I can't wait for those house lights to go down...

I usually get there at least 30 minutes early, too. Mostly because I have an absolute horror of being late to a show and because I always overestimate the amount of time it'll take me to walk to the theater because of crowds.
Whenever I go with my family, there's a restaurant we almost always go to. We've done it since I was really young.
I usually get to the theatre 40-30 minutes early and read the entire playbill (even if I have read the same one before).
I also buy a large program if they have one.
