Just curious. Personally I don't think it'd work...but for some reason I want to know what others think of the idea.
Also how would you feel about "Romy and Michelle's HS Reunion?"
...I honestly didn't post this for it to just be another bull**** thread...
Leigh Ann Larkin as Romy with Tracy Jai Edwards as Michelle, please.
I think Transamerica would work better as a play personally. With the right team though Romy and Michelle would be awesome.

X2!!!!
Noo.
And I find it amusing that B3TA of all people is asking not to make another bullsh*t thread.

Oooh, I like the idea of this on stage! Musical or straight play, both could work, I think.
StateofJade - well said! a little high schooler diva telling SirNotAppearing not to make this a "bullsh*t" thread? LOL. That's all b3ta does.
CAN EMMA ZAKS BE THE STAR OF IT?
StateOf Jade & TooDarnHot,
My thoughts exactly.
I think Emma Zaks would make a great Romy.
I don't see how that's necessary...or a legitimate argument. Neither of you ever noticed my posts until I made a thread that was misconstrued as an attack on a show that I generally am apathetic towards. I stated my original intentions and, whether you found the thread funny or not, I really don't think I'm deserving of the attacks over it.
And if you care about attacking me could you at least do me the respect of knowing that I'm a sophomore in college? And not half the diva you're making me out to be. Seriously, y'all are being so much more rude to me than the single "rude" post that got your attention towards me. F*CK off.
with the right creative team, either could be great.
Transamerica was a great film that showcased a number of important issues that could be compelling for a theatre piece.
Oh trust me B3Ta I've noticed the nasty comments you've made way before you made that other stupid thread.
Maybe Romy and Michelle could work, but not Transamerica.
There would be a potentially big problem but an interesting challenge in writing the music for a Transamerica musical. Assuming a biological female played the lead role as in the film, how would her music be written? In a high soprano register? Probably not. But you'd have to find a killer low alto to sing consistently in men's ranges, as vocal change is one of the key issues explored in the movie. I don't think anything like it has ever been attempted.
That said, I don't particularly think it's a good idea. Very sweet movie, but it's a road movie, which doesn't really lend itself to a great musical structure.
"it's a road movie"
That's exactly why I don't think it'd work. My words were "too horizontal," though. Hahaha. And your thoughts on the writing for the character is great. What about the concept of the register changing over time? At the start of the film she is just getting into her new form, and just finding her voice, and by the end she's a full woman. One way to go about it is to have a male play the role in one act and a female in the other, or have them switch off. Or you could have a male dressed like she used to look on stage at all times commenting, and he controls the narration of the story at first and as the arc takes place it switches to her controlling it.
But either way it's too horizontal.
