Just heard from a pal of mine in London that a number of Broadway shows are picking up pace to get into London for 2006.

WICKED is going into the Victoria Apollo Theatre from 19th October 06

AVENUE Q is entering the Novello Theatre from April

and SPAMALOT has been checking out the theatre where The Woman In White is playing on in the West End (apparently its coming off in April!) and Spamalot is opening there in August!

MOVIN OUT is also hoping to put together a London Company

No news on HAIRSPRAY, apparently thats cancelled for the foreseeable future, shame, when i went to London i thought it would really perk it up.

Now lets hope London gives us Mary Poppins and Billy Elliot in exchange!!

A few more additional tidbits:

I believe Tim Curry IS interested in going to London to do SPAMALOT.

As for Mary Poppins, it will come to Broadway but it will get re-configured (lightened up) for Broadway. The show is way too dark and the show will try to address the issues brough up by the less than favorable reviews by the Ben Brantley and Michael Billington (who's the "dean" of London theatre reviewers).

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

So WiW is closing in London? Why? Poor sales?

Spamalot is going into Drury Lane. WIW is still doing well and the palace is way too small for Spamalot.

Wicked is NOT coming until at least 2007, Stephen Schwartz has said so.

Thats not right...Wicked has been at the Apollo Victoria, many people in London has seen them checking the theatre for Oct 06 opening.

Spamalot...Drury Lane? The Producers still has some life left there and the show is too big there. WIW is actually not selling that well at all, its discounted everywhere so isn't hugley profitable even when audiences are up. If Spamalot comes itll be The Palace. Palladium was rumoured but its too big and Sound of Music got it.

the only broadway show that has OFFICIAL CONFIRMATION of a west end transfer at the moment is avenue q, which is now skipping a stratford east tryout and is going direct into one of Cam Macks theatres, probably the newly names Novello (the strand).

Wicked going into the palace? well, i know for sure that saturday night fever has not posted a closing date yet, or has even thought about one yet.

woman in white may not be selling well, but its in the top 3 selling shows in london at the moment. theres no news about a closing date for that yet.

the producers has no official news about it moving, although a rumour has just started on a west end musical website that its transferring.

so at the moment only ave q is opening. until i hear something official, i will not believe rumours.

I still don't think Avenue Q will do well in London (I hope they prove me wrong) since it is a very New York City show.
