This discussion happened on a board here in England and the result of it was - no. But hopefully someone else may know of one.

My two cents at the time was that if you want to transpose music, then be careful if you use it in an audition because some musical directors know songs that are in certain keys - for example Music of the Night is always in the key of X flat (I forget!).. and if you present them with transposed music then they'll think you have problems with original songs.

I don’t know about transposing music online but there is supposed to be a computer program that will do it for you. You scan in your sheet music and then you can change it to any key you need/want. Then you can print it out in the new key. I may be wrong but I think it is called “Finale Print Music!”

You might want to go to e-bay and see if it’s up for sale. It would give the computer requirements as well.

Hope this helps.

"finale" is a very good program. it was just updated to do more than before. but be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it...it isn't cheap. of you have a few friends, chip in and burn copies for each other...that's how i got mine.

Yes kec the ugly key of G flat. I always wanted to know why ALW especially wrote most of his songs in keys with MANY flats. He could have transposed it down one half step and then Motn would be in that wonderful key of F. As a pianist and violinist who hates flats that just ticks me off.

Goodness knows what evil lurks in the minds of composers. :) In looking at the music for the title song from Phantom, it starts out simply enough in the key of B flat; then when the Phantom starts to sing it's in the key of E Flat; then back to Christine again, and this time it's in the key of G with one sharp; then, when the Phantom starts to sing "in all your fantasies..." it's in the key of D flat, goes back to E flat when Christine starts her "ahhhh" and ends, when Christine hits that very high E, in the key of C! As a very out of practice pianist, that would make me TOTALLY crazy!

Yeah, those keys for "Phantom" are totally crazy.

Funny story. Well, funny now, but not when it happened.
I sang "Music of The Night" from Phantom for an audition. I walked in, gave the accompanist my sheet music and started the song. It was okay at first. Then we hit the first key change. The guy totally missed the key change and NEVER managed to get totally back on track. He was off the whole song and would slow down at parts he was having trouble with. It was HORRIBLE. After a while of it, I basically just said 'screw it' and started singing the song while totally ignoring the piano. It was the only way I could have finished the song.

LOL Broadway Guy--I've had that happen a time or two myself. That's why I used to try to get a friend who knew the music come with me or I'd bring a recording with me. It just made life that much easier. No one ever seemed to mind that I did it that way. In fact, some were either grateful or would remark it showed foresight.

Hey D! I always use my karaoke or rehearsal tapes. I hate pianists. Being one myself (not too bad of one either) I can't stand it when the pianist can't play the music. Especially when the song is so well known.

That's what REALLY got me though and ticked me off even more. It isn't like the song was something no had ever jeard of before ya know? I use a recording sometimes, not all the time though. It really depeds on the situation.

Hey Mr. T! Don't see much of you on this board.

I agree that it depends on the situation but it never hurts to be prepared.
