Was just watching the fourth hour of the Today show, and they had Treat Williams on and he said that him and Wayne Cilento are working on a production of Man of La Mancha. Cilento is supposed to direct and choreograph. Anyone heard anything?

I know that the Weston production is not happening - Weston is still doing the show, but not with Cilento and Williams because the latter had new tv/film conflicts arise. It's possible they've found someplace else to do it at another time.

I can't imagine Williams having the vocal skills the part calls for.

Really? I thought he sang rather well in GREASE and THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE. And I've seen the film of HAIR at least a hundred times. His range there is quite a bit larger than Don Quixote's.
I didn't see the FOLLIES where he played Buddy. Has his voice declined?
Of course, nobody sings like Richard Kiley.

I've head Treat Williams sing and he has a good voice. The role calls for an operatic baritone. A crooner can't do justice to the last few measures of "The Impossible Dream"

Honestly, dolly, *I* could sing that song and the audience would go nuts. It's like "Ol' Man River" in that sense. I first saw Jose Ferrer in the part. True, his voice was more operatic than Williams', but Ferrer was no Kiley either. The show still worked.
I wouldn't call Williams a "crooner". His voice is too bright. He's more a traditional Broadway singer.
If the show were to play here on the West Coast, I'd keep an open mind and take my chances.

I saw Hall Holbrook ruin the show with his poor singing.
