Trevor Nunn, who has included the Stephen Sondheim musical Follies on the list of shows he wants to direct as part of his year-long season next year at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.
The award-winning director will mount four productions to run from January after Sweet Charity ends its run at the venue. Nunn has a long list of nine shows to choose from because some (for various reasons) will drop off.
I'm told that Nunn will need to sign a major box-office name before Follies, which will cost £2 million, gets the green light. No name, no Follies.

Richard Eyre and Stephen Mear, who are in talks to direct and choreograph the George Stiles and Anthony Drewe musical Betty Blue Eyes. The show is a musical adaptation of Alan Bennett's hilarious movie A
Private Function, set in post-war Britain in a town where locals want to celebrate the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip with a special pork feast - but rationing presents a problem.
The show will have its world premiere run at the West Yorkshire Playhouse around February-March next year, and the plan is for it to come into the West End to one of Cameron Mackintosh's theatres around Easter.
Meanwhile, Gavin Creel and Sally Ann Triplett are among the cast doing a workshop today in London for another Stiles and Drewe show, a musical based on the comedy film Soapdish.
