Trip advice - Memphis rush?

I will preface this post by saying I did a search, and I didn't find very much!

I'm coming to Manhattan for a short business trip next week. I was thinking that on Thursday night I'd see Memphis. My flight gets in on Thursday at 11 AM, so I'm wondering whether y'all think there will be any rush tickets remaining by the time it takes me to get from LaGuardia to Shubert by subway/bus (eta 12-12:30)? I know that things vary from day-to-day, but what have people's experiences been at Memphis' rush?

Thank you, all!
C4b

I've gone a couple times, and more recently they seem a little more difficult to get. I would go to the box office as soon as you can. I went last week around 11:30 and I'm pretty sure I was one of the last people to get them. Hope that helps.

Thanks! That's definitely helpful.

I'm not committed to Memphis, but it's the most interesting to me of what remains since the massive January closings. Can you or anybody think of another rush that may be better suited to my situation? I read that the Spider-Man rush is pretty difficult. I would guess the Jersey Boys rush is hard too.

Several months ago, we managed to get student rush tickets to 'Memphis' at around 12:30 or so. I have heard that it's been much tougher lately. If you know you want to see it, why not buy your tickets ahead of time or try for TKTS? You'll likely get better seats (we had box, which cut out a lot of the side view, but we didn't expect much for $30).

The Balcony seats are also fine for "Memphis."

As far as other shows go:

I loved "American Idiot" (and I'm not a Green Day fan--I enjoyed their music in high school, but was never a "fan," per se). "Chicago" is always a decent choice, too, if you haven't seen it before.

Hi, C4B, as you might imagine, every day is a little different in terms of what's available for student rush. The day of the week, the weather, etc., all factor into it. I'm guessing rush tickets would be gone by around noontime, since the box office opens at 10 a.m., but it's worth a try.

Here's another option: 'Memphis' sells the very front row in orchestra, AA, as partial view for $66.50. If you can nab one for the center row from the box office or ticket agency, it's worth it. OK, it's not as cheap as $26.50 (student rush), but it's half-price compared to regular orchestra, and at least you're assured of a seat that night. These are sold in advance; if they're unsold by the day of the show, they're up for rush.

'Partial view' is a misnomer; you can see everything in the front row AA (seats 101, etc.); it's the sides (seats 5,6,7,Trip advice - Memphis rush? where you miss just a little, here and there. ... If you decide to do rush, and get a box seat, try to ask for a seat that's nearest the railing, for the best sightlines.

One last word: See 'Memphis.' It won the triple crown this season for Best Musical (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics). Great cast, dynamic dancing and catchy rock 'n' roll tunes.

Hey folks, I'm bumping this even though it's only been a week since the original posting. I'm thinking about checking out the show next Wednesday night but probably wouldn't be able to get to the theater to buy tickets until about 6:20pm (after work). Would any rush be available that close to curtain on a weeknight? If no, does anyone know of any shows where it might be easier to snag a ticket that late? Many thanks in advance.

Have never seen Memphis or tried to rush it. But if you can't get tickets, go across the street to Colin Quinn. I got a rush ticket there at 7 pm for an 8 pm show on a Wednesday night. Earnest is selling very well, but they do student rush half an hour before curtain. I went and was told they were sold out, but then some tickets were released and we got them for half price. I would recommend both of those shows!

It's a hit or miss with Memphis rush. I would try no matter what time you can get there. It's a really fun show, I always have a wonderful time seeing it!

I'd actually beg to differ with Wayman about front row. I got them for rush, 26.50, so I'm not complaining, but the stage is pretty high, so if you're really tall go for it. You miss some things, like shoes and some things in the way back. Otherwise I would suggest TKTS because the boxes are not the best. Try to see the show, though if you can. Although most people don't like it I've seen it twice and it's great.
