I finally got the notice from Broadwaybox.com about the new Off Broadway musical Trolls. "Between the gym, Botox and Geritol, staying young is exhausting". I am especially excited about this show because a friend of my brother's, Albert, is in it. He was recently on Law & Order, SVU and played an ex-partner of Ice-T. It is supposed to be hilarious. I was told he plays a Mexican butler. It is at the Actor's Playhouse, 100 Seventh Avenue South, beteen Bleeker and Christopher) NYC. My brother was ordering tixs for my birthday. I will tell you all about it when I see it!!!!!!!!!!

Are we talking about Trolls like under the bridge who wont let the billy goats gruff go by or Trolls as in older normally heavyset lecherous gay men.

I was kinding a little but I was serious. I think it is about time that old lecherous gay men get their spotlight in a show. I can see the songs now:

"Chicken Little, Chicken Hawk"

"Hey Kiddie, I got a quarter"

and my favorite the 11o;clock number (or 145am number)

I was walking by the theatre a few weeks ago and saw the marquee and it imediately struck my interest.

I'm sorry Broadwaylady but I agree with Sparky310. Just from the advertising campaign and the title, the show sounds borderline offensive and not as funny as BoxOfficeJon's parody post above, It's like calling a show "Fag Hags." The word may be used commonly, but it's used as an insult or a camp reference or a self-hating put-down.

Who would be the audience for a musical that presents aging gay men as pathetic? Young gay men who avoid "trolls"? Older gay men who think of themselves as anything but? Straight theatregoers?

I am sorry if it does offend people. Maybe it is offensive. I did not realize that. I am seeing it because this is Albert's first play in years. As you know, as an actor it is very hard in this business to get a break.

Wow... was I the only person who thought it might be about those little plastic things with the colorful hair and a gem in their belly button?? I only saw the name and the purple behind the logo though... haven't seen/looked for anything else about it.

You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, Sparks, but you tread on a slippery slope when you start censoring that which you don't like. Where do you draw the line? Is Pillowman, with its disturbing subject matter going too far? Frozen? How about I Am My Own Mother?

I haven't seen it but there was such a negative review in that other chatroom that would make me suggest getting some more responses on the show before wasting your time and money. From what I recall there's every negative gay male stereotype you could imagine (even the bitter older Judy Garland fanatic). Not much good was said for the book or the music but once again it was only one viewer's opinion. However from what he described, it sounded like a total turn off to one's gay sensibilities.

A friend of mine (an older gay man) and his boyfriend saw it about two weeks ago and didn't really like it.
