Well if you're trying to find showtunes maybe something from Thoroughly Modern Millie but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

Check out Rogers & Hart, Gershwin and Irving Berlin.

They all wrote stuff during the 20's.

Ways to annoy people: Arrive at a meeting late, say you're sorry, but you didn't have time for lunch, and you're going to be nibbling during the meeting. Then eat raw potatoes. Ask people what gender they are,or Disagree strongly with everything anybody says:)

Gimme Gimme is not a song from the 20's.

One of the biggest shows from the 20's was No No Nanette which has the standards "I Want To Be Happy" and "Tea For Two", plus some good obscurities like "Too Many Rings Around Rosie" and "Call of the Sea".

Cole Porter's Fifty Million Frenchmen has "Find Me a Primitive Man" which is fun and a little suggestive.

A Connecticuit Yankee (Rodgers and Hart) has "Thou Swell".

Are you auditioning for a specific show? What kind of image do you want to project?

Also Jerome Kern, whose immortal Showboat opened in 1927.

I would also say songs from Thoroughly Modern Millie, since it took place in 1922...but I don't know a lot of songs from the 1920s.

One of my favorite CDs of 1920s songs is a compilation put out by Columbia a few years ago as part of their 'Art Deco' series, called "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" - all are songs (mostly from forgotten shows and films of that era) normally sung by women, but here they are sung by men, mostly anonymous vocalists in small obscure dance bands. "He's My Secret Passion", "But I Can't Make A Man" "He's A Good Man To Have Around" and "Can't We Be Friends" are especially good.

If you are a fan of 20s music, try to find 'The Vintage Cassette Recording Volumes I and II'. It has some very rare and unusual recordings of artists like Eddie Cantor, Al Jolson, Marion Harris, Bert Williams, and Billy Murray and Aileen Stanley singing 'Keep Your Skirt Down, Maryann'

"Button Up Your Overcoat" from GOOD NEWS is a very cute, peppy song that requires high energy to put over.

Please note: The songs from THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE are NOT songs from the 1920s. They were all written a few years ago to EVOKE the 1920s :)
