I've tried searching the boards for this and have only found one post discussing (but not in great detail) this subject.
On both Amazon.com and BestBuy.com they list two seperate RENT soundtracks. The first slated for September 27th (as we're all waiting for) and another on November 8th. Now, one might assume (yeah I know what that does) that the first is a two-disc and the other a single-disc "highlights" edition. This would easily be assumed looking at Best Buy's site. However, looking on Amazon.com they are both listed at two-disc sets!
Now I've looked at both and I could have missed something but, they only have a couple of slight differences. The first is the price: Sept 27th: $22.49, Nov. 8th: $18.98. The other is the track listing. On the Nov. 8th edition the track listing on disc one ends with "Over the Moon" and follows with on disc two "Vie Boheme," "I Should Tell You" and "Vie Boheme 2." On the Sept. 27th disc one ends with "La Vie Boheme" and "I Should Tell You."
Like I've said I may have missed something and I may have, but any additional information on this would be great! I've posted the following links to Amazon.com pages for further study:

i really see no difference. maybe its b/c they fit more songs onto the one coming out in november?
Could it be that the one being released Tuesday is the one with all 8 of them on the cover, and the ones being released in November are the "collector's edition" albums?
I also noticed that a while ago... and I don't get it.
Maybe, meagan.
It doesn't make any sense they both have the same amount of tracks (2
but just divided up differently....has anyone considered calling AMAZON.COM???
It's not just Amazon.com, BestBuy.com lists the same thing.
I am so confused by all this too, I just called Best Buy and they have no clue what is going on with any of this??? This is sort of frustrating!! Not like I am not going to buy both anyway, but come on now!!
Here's Amazon's phone number if anyone wants to call them:

My guess is a highlights CD. It costs less, as they will want to appeal to the people who liked the movie but don't want to spend so much money on a double cd. That's jsut my guess, though.
Yea, I'm thinking its just a highlights cd too. Otherwise there really wouldn't be any reason to have to different prices and release dates.

The Nov. 8 one has the same tracks, its just split up differently. That's odd.
That's really weird. It's the same exact CD, except La Vie Boheme and I Should Tell You are one disk 2. =/
FYI...I just got off the phone with Amazon, and they absolutley have no idea what the difference between the two CDs are. I guess we will just have to wait it out and see?

i used to work at barnes and noble and it was weird that sometimes for musicals they would have two listing for the recordings coming out in the computer...they did for Little Women and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels...and it confused me...then then we just never got the second versions and it said there was no way we could order it into the store...so maybe that the same thing?

maybe someone just really f*ed up the listings. i'm willing to wager the november release is strictly a "highlights" cd.
Could the second one just be the score? Just the background stuff, no singing? *shrug*
It would be awesome if the November release was just the score/instrumental. So who's going to buy both to find out what's really going on?
sometimes movies do like a "music inspired by the motion picture" cd, maybe it will be a sampling of their solo work
or their might be an actual soundtrack, for example they show a clip of roger playing on stage when april is still alive, their might be other "pop" songs besides the musical

We only have to wait 2 more days to find out.
At least for the first CD, not the second.
