1. Do they check ID upon pick-up, or would I be able to pick up tickets under a friend's name? (Even without checking ID, they'll know I'm not my friend, seeing as we're of different genders.)
2. Is there a specific time that you're required to pick up the tickets? For example, do they only allow you to retrieve them at half-hour, or can you pick them up earlier in the day on the day of the performance?
Thanks!
I'm not sure about #2 (I actually think someone asked that question a while back and can't remember the answer) but every time I've picked up tickets, I have not been asked for my ID.
My dad has a TDF membership, and I use it. I've never been questioned about it or asked to show ID. I don't think you'll have a problem there.
I don't have an answer to #2 since I've never tried to pick tickets up before about an hour/half hour before the show.
Usually the theatre has them earlier than 30 minutes beforehand. Especially if they were ordered in advance.
The only time that they were not there earlier was when I got tickets at lunch the day of. Those were not at the box office until about 45 minutes before curtain.
1. Usually not, but I've been asked for ID on two occasions.
2. When I've show up 45-60 minutes in advance to pick them up, they've never refused.
Thanks for the help!

Print the voucher confirmation. That is ID enough.
Have your friend forward it to you.
Yeah...having the print-out is a good idea anyway. It's rare, but twice I've had to show that to prove I had bought a ticket because once it was misfiled (in the Q section rather than the S section...go figure), and another time it was overlooked, so I was given another seat (that actually turned out to be a fantastic seat!) since I had the proof I had purchased a ticket.

Not necessarily. I've had the voucher and on a few rare occassions have also been asked for ID. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
You can also pick the tickets up very close to curtain time; you don't need to time it for 30 minutes prior. Easy to have dinner first, and get to the theatre at 7:50 and still pick up your tickets.
The Biltmore (sorry, Friedman) is the only theater that has ever asked for my ID when I picked up TDF tickets.

Speaking of TDF Q's...
On the TDF site, it says the tickets are processed as "Best Available". Is it the best available seat when you place the order, or when you pick them up? In other words, is the quality of the seat dependent upon when you order the tickets?
I've never seen any pattern to it. I've placed an order a week or more in advance and gotten a seat in the mezz (not specified it might be...I don't mind so it wasn't a big deal) and placed an order the day of and gotten an amazing orchestra seat.
It depends more on what the producers have given them and just general randomness.
I'm from the UK.
On our last two visits to NY we've used the generaly available discount codes and got decent seats and prices. (If you ignore the xchange this year!)
Would TDF accept a UK address to join, and if they did, would you say that the discounts are that much greater and would justify the membership fee, bearing in mind we'd probably be in NY for only a week a year?
Thanks
They do have a National Membership option for $12:

However, I'm not sure if that is simply limited to those living in the US or to any of those living more than 100 miles from NYC and fitting under one of their qualifying criteria. It does ask to slot in a zip to see if you live far away to qualify, though.

When I went to sign up, it listed all these different professions, but what if I'm not one of those professions? I'm not longer a student, but I'm not a actor that belongs to a union yet. So what do I do? ha.

Got an old student ID? They're not exactly strict about requiring proof for membership.
I've picked tickets up at 5:30 or so for an 8:00 show. They print them the same time as the will-call tickets I'm sure. So, if you need to pick them up earlier, it shouldn't be a problem.

Well yeah, I have a student ID, and I still use it for student rushes, but it doesn't have an expiration date on it.
