I'll be in the City on May 26th, which is a Tuesday. Am going to get tickets for an evening performance. The two choices are 9 to 5 or Next to Normal. Anybody have any opinions about these two shows? What should I go see folks? My theatergoing fate is in your hands. Thank you!

I've seen both (in the same day actually) and I enjoyed both a lot.
next to normal is really deep, sad, but genius.
9 to 5 is light, funny, fun, and cute.
It depends on what you want.
Like Wishing said they are completely different shows but I loved Next to Normal where as I only liked 9 to 5

Do you want to be depressed or have a great time? 9 to 5 for the latter, next to normal for the former.

oh lord. what a pathetic Shill.
On a serious note.
next to normal is an original musical with a serious and thought provoking subject matter full of great performances and has the second highest number of Tony nominations for the season.
9 to 5 is a lighthearted adaptation of a well known and well liked movie with a score written by a well known and well liked country artist. It wasn't very well received by critics but it does have a large number of fans.
It just depends on what you're looking for. A light and fluffy evening of smiles but not with anything particularly new or different, or an original show with breakthrough performances but a heavy and dramatic story from fairly unknown score and book writers.
9 to 5. Next to Normal is great, but if it's the only thing you are seeing while you are here you might leave feeling slightly down.
