Thanks,

Hah, and hopefully one day you will find out all about my musicals, when you see them playing at a theatre near you :P

I really enjoyed both of these! I think more underlying piano would be really nice, and I almost wanted "Here You Stand" to be up-tempo.

And what do you mean you aren't a performer? You have a nice sound!

Hah,

Thanks. I am actually really training to be a Set Designer, and I write as a hobby and act to pay bills. And As far as the piano goes I am a lyricist and not a composer, so my musical knowledge is limited. Both those songs have yet to be fleshed out by my composer, so that's why they are rough.

And as far as Here You Stand being uptempo I think it'll make more sense slow when you hear the violin underscoring, which gives it more power. It is one of the turning points of the show, well at least for taht character, so I needed to give him time to work these things out in his head.

well...unfortunately that character does not have that much singing after this song, because this wraps up a lot of his journey, and it focuses more on the rest of his family.

Aw, I was just joking around - but it sounds like you've got it down! Good luck (and if you record any more clips, post 'em!)!

BRAVO!!

very sweet, charming and accessible...kudos to your partner, music and lyrics are a perfect fit, I was surprised to read you didn't also write the music because how well matched it all was.

PM me your lyrics, and with your blessings, I will point out EASY ways to make some of your rhymes PERFECT rhymes

Yes, thoroughly enjoyed In The Movies - try hooking up with a friend who's got more musical background to do the arrangements, people will be pleased to help you out and to give themselves more experience. Mel Brooks presented his orchestrator with just basic chords I believe, so there's hope yet.

Congrats. And keep going, it was excellent :)

I love "Here You Stand", but by the flaming carrots of St. Sebastian, "In The Movies" is the best song I've heard in a while. *claps madly* Yay for tryng to be more than a sidekick (know that feeling all too well)! I loved them both, can you write the songs for a musical my friend and I are trying to put together?

1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

Mine is Eliezer as well! Hope the song helps you in your relationship with him. Dads are tough people some times, I know, I am one...lol

Marc Shaimans post is great, congrats... take him up on the offer...if you haven't yet..!

I think they both say something nice, but the actual songs are pretty flat and boring.

Thanks everyone,

Actually Marc I think you misunderstood. What I meant was that I had YET to hand over these songs to my composer. Me and my composer work in different ways and lately we've been trying a thing where I write the lyrics and the basic tune, and he takes that basic tune and fleshes it out. So these songs had both lyrics and music written by me at this point, and will later be fleshed out by my composer.

And Thesbijean, I tend to agree with you about the flat and boring bit. I hope that my composer can spice things up a bit (and trust me the violin stuff I have written that underscores "Here you stand" is quite helpful as far as the impact of the song.

oh and elimeyer,

The song is actually about how I cam to terms with my father's silence, and learned to love him for it, so don't worry things are good between us.

Two very fantastic songs, and you have a beautiful voice! Something about it just appeals to me! Thank you for sharing. re: Two songs I wrote for musicals

Hi Akiva! I just finished listening to "Here You Stand" and you sound like my friend Andrew when he sings. You also sound like Jonathan Larson too. I still have yet to listen to "In The Movies". Oh and if you need anyone to play piano for you let me know. I'm alright at playing piano, but when I take more lessons I'll do better. For now I'm learing on my own. Keep up the good work and when you write more songs let us know!
