re: Tyrone Giordano has returned to the Big River tour

i saw big river when it opened at the mark taper, and was amazed by it. it was stunning.

Those caption-card things seem quite interesting:

"A new technology for hearing-impaired audiences is being introduced during performances of Big River. The I-Caption system features a hand-held card that displays text and lyrics during a show, coordinated with sound and lighting cues so that it flows with the movement of an individual performance.

Patrons can pick up the units free from a booth in the Buell lobby during performances of Big River."

My review post from last night......

Just got back from the opening night of the Denver engagement of the Deaf West Theatre Production of "Big River - The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". A lot of the original Broadway cast are in the show. For those of you who have not seen the show, I really suggest you see it. The signing is beautiful. Like choreography with hands. The show is quite long and we left thinking that they could have shortened it just a bit. But luckily the wonderful actors, very clever set, great costumes, fun and beautiful songs and "that moment", keeps your attention. Melissa Van Der Schyff as Mary Jane and Gwen Stewart as Alice just blew us away. Great voices. David Aron Damane as Jim was very good also. And Tyrone Giordano was wonderful. For anyone in Denver or anyone planning to see the show in Denver, my suggestion is that you get Orchestra seating. One of my favorite places to sit in the Buell is within the firt 2 rows of the balcony. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of the dialouge up there. I of course let the staff know at intermission and it was a bit better for the second act. But we still missed some dialouge. All in all, a very enjoyable evening at the theatre.

Dan Jenkins just returned. Adam Monley left shortly after Garrett Zuercher did, and Jenkins replaced Monley.

Dan performs only in Denver

Hello from Tokyo. Yap I'm enjoying my stay here (Kabuki, Bunraku, Kyogen etc) but I'm missing Dan's performance in Denver Dan performs only in Denver He has a prior engagement (a director job at New Harmony Project) right after Denver run so he won't continue until the end of the tour. That's my luck or lack of. Still I'm very excited that Ty will close the tour though.

I haven't confirmed but I think Garrett still is in the tour, just he is not playing Huck any longer. I think he is playing Simon and other roles. It's possible he may have left but I'm not sure.

So people in Denver, count your blessing and see Dan's Mark Twain while you can. And Lizzy, no offense but Dan did not replace Adam Monley. He graciously stepped in when he was asked when Adam suddenly gave his two week notice. Dan doesn't need to take a replacement role in Big River, you know.
