Is anyone planning on going to this event Monday (11/15) night?
It looks like it will be interesting, and I was just wondering who was going, and if you could give me a run-down of the event!
Thanks..
Michigan on Broadway: A Tribute to Arthur Miller
MICHIGAN ON BROADWAY is a tribute to playwright Arthur Miller featuring an impressive array of performing artists who have achieved phenomenal success with the skills and talent they nurtured at the University of Michigan. Miller, who will be in attendance, began his distinguished writing career as a student at U.M., and forever changed the landscape of American drama with plays like "Death of a Salesman," "All My Sons" and "The Crucible." Following an opening number by Andrew Lippa ("The Wild Party"), he will be honored by notables from the worlds of theater, opera, dance, jazz and orchestral music including Broadway performers Hunter Foster, Jennifer Laura Thompson and Gavin Creel, composer/lyricist Jeff Marx ("Avenue Q") and director Jack O'Brien ("Hairspray," "Henry IV"). Produced by Jeffrey Seller ("Rent," "Avenue Q"), this 90-minute event will raise funds for U.M.'s new Arthur Miller Theatre and Walgreen Drama Center, which will be the new home of its Theatre and Musical Theatre departments, beginning construction in 2005.

*bump again and hate to be a pesty fish*
Did anyone go to this thing??
why?
I went. It was an awesome concert by a ton of UM alum. There were dancers, a jazz pianist, a violinist, three awesome drummers, and of course, musical theater students.
Hunter Foster and Jennifer Laura Thompson sang "Follow Your Heart" and messed up the lines at the beginning so they had to start over. They did it in a very forgivable way, though. JLT did "Popular," Hunter did "I Wanna Be a Producer," Gavin Creel did "What Do I Need With Love" and Barrett Foa did "Purpose." Gavin, Barrett, and some current UM students did a new Andrew Lippa song about UM, and they all did "I Wish I Could Go Back To College" followed by the UM fight song.
Arthur Miller came out and talked. The party was very classy, at the 9th floor of the Marquis. It was a nice evening.
*imagines Hunter, JLT, Gavin, et al singing "Hail to the Victors" while emphatically pumping fists in time...*
damnit, i wish i could've gone
The fist pumping was done very efficiently. :-p It was a great concert.
What did Jeff Marx do? Did he sing. I love when he sings.
He is funny.
