Wouldn't it be funny to see musicals, such as Wicked, Millie, Hairspray and The Producers translated into different languages?

Well, you'll probably never see THE PRODUCERS in Germany... re: URINETOWN in German: pinkelstadt das musical!!!

I wish there was a cast recording of this.....

Actually, Millie, I find that a lot of musicals are better in other languages. Especially the quality of performance. All of the Berlin/Vienna/Bremen cds I've got feature singers who sound much more well trained than their American counterparts (well, save Lyn Liechty, who *is* American but is on the Jekyll Bremen highlights cast kicking some international booty) and have a higher quality of sound.

I disagree with that Chasing, I have lots of non-Broadway cast recordings (german, spanish, french ones...), and the Broadway quality is better by far. Even the West End ones have a lower quality for me.

Seven and a half cents doesn't buy a hell of a lot!

But as with everything, there are exceptions. I prefer the West End Crazy for You to the Broadway version, for the leads, the zeal and drive of the orchestra's playing, and more of the dance music. The London revival Chicago has a slight edge for me too of the Broadway revival, though I still often go back to the original Broadway recording, in spite of everything that's missing. And one needs to hear Helen Schneider on the German Sunset Boulevard recording...
