Urinetown the Musical, which won three Tony Awards in 2002, will premiere in the West End next year. Directed by Jamie Lloyd, the show is set to begin previews at the St. James Theatre on February 22, and run through May 3. Opening night is set for March 11.

In a city of the future that has been inflicted with a terrible drought, business tycoon Caldwell B. Cladwell has made his fortune through bribery and the monopolisation of all public toilets. With a brutal police force maintaining law and order, it's not a place to get caught short! Risk it and you will be sent off to a place no one returns from - the infamous Urinetown. The city needs a revolution and every revolution needs a hero... however unlikely.

An epic tale of greed, corruption, love and revolution set in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. This hilarious satirical comedy finally hits London after its Tony Award-winning Broadway success. Directed by Olivier Award-winner Jamie Lloyd and designed by Soutra Gilmour, this promises to be the stand out musical opening in London.

THAT ARTWORK, THOUGH! LOL.

I'm curious to know how it will be staged in London since the lawsuits over US regional productions. The Broadway production was one of the most hilarious and perfect shows I've ever seen. There wasn't a single wasted second on stage.

Completely agreed, Matt. It is an experience I will fondly remember; I had never laughed so hard before. Jeff McCarthy was a comedic genius in this role. I'm surprised this is the UK Premiere. Any reason to believe this won't translate well?

I was just thinking about this the other day and how I would've liked to see it on Broadway. I saw it once on the National Tour years ago.

Can someone elaborate on what the lawsuit was about?

Millie, here's a Playbill article from around that time (2006). I'm assuming this is what Matt is referring to: http://www.playbill.com/news/article/103961-Charged-With-Plagiarism-Regional-Urinetown-Teams-Fire-Back-Lawsuit-Filed

The artwork with all the pipes gives it sortof a steam punk feel.
