'Ugly Betty: The Musical' in talks with show's producers?

From Dose.ca

~~

With a New York setting, outrageous outfits, campy storylines and a dedicated gay following, it was only a matter of time before someone suggested an Ugly Betty musical. Michael Urie, who plays flamboyant schemer Marc on the hit ABC comedy, told British radio station Heart that the show's producers are looking to bring it Broadway.

"They do want to do an Ugly Betty musical, a full-on Broadway musical, but it's all hush-hush," said the 27-year-old actor. "I think it would be great, and they should use the cast from the show."

Production of the musical will be easier now that Ugly Betty is moving production from Los Angeles to the real New York City - ABC can enjoy the Big Apple's new tax credits and Broadway producers can take advantage of being in close proximity to their source material.

Still, a stage production is far from a done deal, but Urie said that, at the very least, fans can expect a musical episode of Ugly Betty in the same vein as Buffy the Vampire Slayer's musical show, "Once More With Feeling."

"They definitely want to do an episode that is a musical one, but then they want to do a full stage show," said Urie. "I think it's a great idea. It would definitely work."

You know what would be better? An Ugly Betty musical featuring only Marc, Amanda and Wilhelmina. Screw Betty's wide-eyed optimism - we want to see bitchy people dance in a chorus line!

I would also pay to see this, ha.
The greatest idea? No.

It really wouldn't have to involve the series' whole plot. It could just be Betty resolving one disaster.

I'm surprised this wasn't brought up earlier. I wholeheartedly agree with the first paragraph.

As much as I love the show all I can say on this topic is one big NO. I can't see how this would happen.

I'd settle happily for a musical episode or two. This may be a bit much... It will be interesting to see what comes of it.
