Does anyone know where to obtain the stage rights to Harnick's translation of Legrand's musical?

Have you checked any of the websites for licensing companies? I checked Music Theatre International handles it, since they're the company that handles Fiddler on the Roof, but they don't have it. Rodgers and Hammerstein might handle it instead. There's also Tams Witmark.
If not them, check Samuel French, Dramatists Play Service, do a Google search or email the Drama Book Shop and ask them. Good luck

It has had several stage productions, including one at the Public Theatre back in the 80s. The complete score is available on cd, but of course, it's the soundtrack from the movie.
I bought it at the Virgin on 7th Avenue and 46th St the year the movie was reissued to theatres. I think it was in 1997.

Posted: 1/20/07 at 1:06pmI saw a stage version in San Francisco in 1980, I believe, at the Orpheum. It was terrific. At that point, I had not seen the movie. But, having seen the movie since, I believe the stage version was very faithful - it was completely sung through. I was actually doing reviews for radio and my closing note in my notebook was "Outstanding"
