I think Fosse would be considered one. Who else do you think is a unique director?
(Unique meaning very different, artistic, etc.)

Posted: 1/4/15 at 12:54pmI am surprised by the direction this thread has taken, which seems to have devalued the meaning of the word "unique" into a synonym for "has done good work." There is nothing unique about many of the directors named, in the sense that their work is not sui generis. Regarding the OP, I think Fosse certainly qualifies as a unique choreographer; but as a director, not so much.

Less unique, but still with a distinct style:
Sam Gold
John Tiffany
Michael Mayer
Susan Stroman

Posted: 1/4/15 at 8:41pmThe list of directors with a "distinct style" is lengthy, and arguably includes almost all of them. "Less unique" is an expression devoid of meaning, kinda like "less pregnant."
