The Playbill was a rather nondescript affair. All it had on the front was a stock picture of Shaw's face. It had Rita Moreno as Sister Sharon so than in and of itself made it a shame it did not succeed.

 

I would have to check Not Since Carrie to get the details. Critics have been known to take issue with a supposed slight and take it out on a show. Such was the case with The Happy Time but that is old history.

Just checked Carrie.  It did not mention the souled out sign but I remember reading it somewhere. Carrie was not it

 

The critics got their knickers in a twist over producers plan to invite out of town critics during previews while shutting them out. The plan was shelved but the critics took their pound of flesh anyway on the show.
