The Letter-Judy Garland 3/13
I'm so glad this is finally coming out on CD! I had the original LP with an actual letter pasted onto the front cover.
When Judy played the old Met in NYC in, I think, 1958, I saw her. In addition to her usual standards, she did a full-length "Born in a Trunk" with staging and she did all the songs from "The Letter." What an exciting night!
Sadly, since Apple Tree will be closed by the Tony's, they probably won't let them perform. They didn't let Pacific Overtures or Big River.
As for the Brain from Planet X, bk (I'm sure you're the BK I think you are), it seems too much like a vanity project to gain my interest. Loved your live Sondheim and Skinner/Ripley at Town Hall discs though.

Oh yeah, like those Sondheim Sings albums weren't total vanity publications.
I bought them, but they were pretty pathetic. I would rather have heard Florence Foster Jenkins sing his songs.
Im looking forward to Brain from Planet X, it sounds like a hellzapopping fun ride.
The last I heard Evil Dead was set to hit on 3/24....did that change? I find it hard to believe they would push it back exactly a month. I hope it still comes out in March cause I'm sick of waiting for it!
Is LoveMusik even going to be recorded? I know it hasn't opened yet but I hope they put it on disk. More Weil never hurt anyone.

Since Apple Tree has Cheno (the others didn't have big stars) and audiences LOVE her (and she will likely be nominated) - I bet the TONY's will let her perform in June. Just a hunch.

A vanity project? It's a new musical. It had a fabulous tryout production that got great reviews. I wrote it and yes, I recorded it - why not? The idea, of course, being that the recording will help take the show to its next place, which, I'm happy to say, it already has.
Here's a review of the CD that just appeared:

I don't know about them being "vanity" but they were issued in part to meet the huge demand for anything Sondheim. People had been circulating poor quality tapes of these demos for years, so the issue was certainly welcome. (They could have pulled the same stunt they did with RCA's CD of F.F.Jenkins called "Florence Foster Jenkins...sings?")
Like most people who would have bought the CD's, I was most interested in the songs that had not been heard before.
As for the Sony/BMG reissues, I had not heard there were any royalty issues since the cast is well-paid for the recording sessions. The delays were due mostly to corporate changes at Sony/BMG.
Also a deal was set for Playbill to release the Sondheim Boxed set for a 6-month window, but since the Brian Stokes Mitchell CD came out, there hasn't been anything else from Playbill and the boxed set is STILL on hold.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

BK - the clips I listened to for Brain made me think it's the next generation Little Shop, which is a show I love, so I will DEFINITELY be getting this recording! sounds like campy fun!

EVIL DEAD was announced for 3/24. Amazon says 4/24. Let's hope it is the former.
I can't wait for that, the new GREY GARDENS album, and FAME BECOMES ME.
I hope LOVEMUSIK is recorded. But first off, I hope I can see it!
I'm going to echo the question about the Sondheim reissues...the SONY website doesn't seem to have any info on them, where did you find this info...very exciting if it is true, I should have bought an original cast recording of Sweeney (2 CD) when I had the chance...I really want PARLOR SONGS!
I wonder how much better they will sound after being re-mastered.
I have heard other re-mastered cd's that don't sound that much better than the original. And, you know these are going to be expensive. Worth the upgrade? Anyone know?
There are quite a few remasters that have vastly improved the original. Most notably Company.
I wish they'd try to fix Follies OBC.
This is where I found the info on the remasters

I was browsing that Cast Albums site and I don't know how accurate it is considering they didn't get the cast of Evil Dead right.
Sidenote...Does anyone know if they'll ever release the Raul Julia Threepenny on CD, my vynl is gonna get worn out one of these days?
is this one of those wikipedia type websites where anyone can update the info?
Maybe they will package Into the Woods a little differently. I had quite a time convincing someone the other day that there really was only supposed to be ONE CD in there!
There is no way that booklet will fit in the new double cd cases.
Maybe they'll copy PS Classics style.
Side note - did you know those booklets need to be stuffed in the slipcovers by hand. The Frogs i ordered was missing it's lyrics so i e-mailed Tommy Krasker (who was very gracious) and he explained it to me.

Thanks, Luponatic! Hope you enjoy. BTW, for anyone who does get the CD, we didn't print the lyrics in the booklet because I wanted as many photos as possible, plus the synopsis - it's a 12 page full-color booklet. But, the lyrics are available to download on the Kritzerland site.

I like the way the original "Into the Woods", etc was packaged. I feel like I actually have a case to protect everything, very good for long term ownership. With PS Classics, I feel like its going fall apart at any moment.
I like the way Light in the Piazza is packaged...like the PS Classics stuff, but with a flap on one side...makes me a lot more secure, maybe they could package the new ITW like that?
I'm very excited that they are finally releasing "The Letter" on CD as it is was somewhat of a departure for Garland. Now if we could only get a CD release of Judy and Liza at The Palladium.

Apparently, according to the bio of musician Matt Gallagher, the OBCR for "High Fidelity" will be released in May. :)
The booklets with the oriiginal releases were often too big to fit into the jewel box. The first editions of SUNDAY and MERRILY had that problem and RCA later reprinted them on thinner stock so they would fit.
INTO THE WOODS put the single CD in a double Jewel box and used the empty side for the libretto. SWEENEY came as a 2 CD set with a booklet of notes and a separate libretto.
BK - are you saying the librettos will NOT be included with the reissues? or were you speaking of some other product?
