Upcoming Disney Theatricals Productions

Just wondering, since it seems like after taking it pretty easy after the problems with "Tarzan" and "Little Mermaid," only opening "Newsies" since then, what is going to open next? "Aladdin" is set to open this winter in Toronto before Broadway and "Jungle Book" is playing in Chicago and Boston this fall, so I'm guessing that if it goes to Broadway it will probably wait another season.

However, many more shows are in development: "Shakespeare In Love," "Father of the Bride," the Pasek and Paul musical "Make Believe," and "Hunchback" seems to really be gaining ground. I'm guessing some of these are much further along than others, but how soon will we see some of these shows?

It's hard to say, but it'd be interesting to see if Disney took on an original show that didn't have any previous ties to the company (Does this apply to Aida?). But because it's Disney they already have a hold of most of this material that they've been workshopping and producing like Jungle Book and Aladdin so I'm sure it's easier for them to know whether or not they have their audience or it could possibly be a hit. (I'm sure they truly believed in Tarzan and Little Mermaid when they decided to take those on.) I'd love to see some more of the "Disney Renaissance" films make it to the stage like Hercules and Pocahontas, even if they are regional productions like Newsies started out as. But because Newsies was a huge success, they reworked it and brought it to Broadway because audiences loved it. I don't foresee Hunchback coming to NY soon (I may be wrong) but it would be interesting if it does. Now the other stuff like Father of the Bride and Freaky Friday are different. I see their animated films coming to the stage moreso than these.
