Upcoming Trip - Suggestions Requested

Headed to NYC next week and have a couple slots for seeing shows, but I'm having trouble prioritizing and planning. This will probably be my last trip until January. The purpose of this trip is actually to see my alma mater play at MSG Thursday and Friday nights. The game on Thursday will be at about 9:30 and the result that night will determine game time on Friday, possibly opening up another slot for a show Friday night.



Arriving Thursday morning, I'm thinking about potentially catching the Phantom matinee, unless there is an Off-Broadway matinee Thursday afternoon - but I haven't seen anything. Thursday night, since the game is at 9:30 I'm thinking about seeing something with a 7:00 curtain, preferably a play so I can get to MSG on time. I've seen The Humans and Heisenberg. I was thinking about The Harvest (I'm intrigued), Oh, Hello, or Dead Poets Society (though it's currently sold out) in this window.



Saturday, I've got a ticket for Hamilton at 8 but I've got the matinee slot open. I've got a whole bunch of shows I'm interested in seeing, a few being limited runs or with closing posted: Falsettos, Fiddler, Les Liasons Dangereuses, On Your Feet, Cats, Oh, Hello, Great Comet, and Plenty. This is where I really need help selecting a show. I try to be pretty open with what I see and have wide-ranging taste.



The weekend in January I'm planning on being back for is the week after Falsettos and Oh, Hello are slated to close. Les Liasons will still be running so I can probably catch it then. This would seem to narrow my choices down to Fiddler, Falsettos, Oh, Hello (unless of course I see this Thursday), and Plenty. If Friday night opens up for me, I'd be able to catch another from this list. Anyone care to offer how you'd rank these four choices?



I flew instead of taking Amtrak this time, so I don't think I'd have time for a 2:00 or 3:00 matinee on Sunday. I might, however, be able to squeeze in a 1pm and was thinking maybe I'd spring for Aladdin (saw School of Rock already, PThespian ) unless you folks have any other ideas? Any input is appreciated!

I'd say you can hold off on Great Comet for now. It's selling so well, I think it's pretty save to be around for a while. Same goes for Cats.

I would say see Falsettos. It's a beloved show with a limited run and a great cast and you won't get another chance to see it.

Many people loved Fiddled, but most probably just love the show. I would assume you've probably the show before and/or can see it regionally or on tour. I wouldn't prioritize it with limited slots. I enjoyed On Your Feet more than expected, but I wouldn't consider it a "must see". I can't speak for the other shows you listed as options.



Aladdin was great fun and if that's the only show you can fit in, go for it!

I've seen 3 of the 4 shows for which you're interested in seeing rankings, and here's my take. But you really can't go wrong with any of the three.

1) Falsettos

2) Oh, Hello

3) Fiddler

Natasha, Pierre... and Oh, Hello are what I'd recommend. Natasha is stunning, and Oh, Hello is pointlessly hysterical and I loved every second of both.

Yeah the priorities are definitely the limited runs/posted closings. I should've gone to see Great Comet at ART now that I live in the Boston area, but oh well - it is what it is! I am confident I'll be able to catch it on a future trip, either January or March.



Believe it or not I have never seen Fiddler in any iteration, but that's a good point that inevitably something regional or a tour may come along. I've been meaning to see it given the things I've read about Danny Burstein here and elsewhere, it just hasn't worked out (cheaper tickets to other shows on my list, American Psycho closing, etc.). It's not a situation where I'd regret not seeing it if I go with the others, because I understand my time in the city is finite and my options are plentiful. If that were the case, I'd have my answer.



Selfishly, in a perfect world either Falsettos or Oh, Hello would announce a small extension and help decide for me. But alas, it doesn't appear that's going to happen, with Christian Borle headed to Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and the guys from Oh, Hello likely having other things lined up. I wish I would've pulled the trigger on Falsettos sooner, since now LincTix are basically all gone. That's life!

I have to imagine the Lyceum has a tenant all lined up by now for the spring... especially with Oh Hello seeming to discount a lot of tickets (although not through traditional discounts?!). I don't pay as much attention on here anymore, so for all I know the next tenant was already announced, heh.

Oh Hello did extend a week, so depend on how small an extension you needed... but they said that is the final extension AND the next tenant is announced, so...
