Thanks for all the positive response, you guys!
Yes, I'm realizing now after reading all these comments just how wonderful of a show it is.

Specifically, I really really REALLY love songs with fast lyrics and repetative beats and rounds. So of course I fell in love with this show after listening to "The Cop Song." That always keeps my blood flowing.

I'm kicking myself for a memory I have 2 years ago. I was a freshman and had just arrived to college. The current show at A.C.T. in San Francisco was "Urinetown" and I was so turned-off by the name and didn't understand what I was looking at when I saw the advertisement in the subway station -- I seriously thought it was something like modern-art or a political statement with graffiti on it! I didn't KNOW it was a REAL SHOW advertisement...

Until about 3 months later when the show had come and gone and I had discovered the OBC Recording... and DIED! I was soooo angry at myself for not looking into it when it was in town!

Oh well, I still adore it!

There was a recording made recently of a Prequel to Urinetown. I also hear there will be a Sequel.

I've also heard rumor of this. I wonder if it's true and if they were become full-fledged stage shows or just concept albums.

A friend who was in the show from the beginning of the off-bway run through the entire b'way run was a part of the recent recording. It's not a rumor, it's absolutely true.

I feel obligated to post in every Urinetown thread. Can't praise it enough.

Is Nancy Opel your friend? I thought she was the only cast member to survive all the incarnations?

Some details about the Urinetown "prequel," which had a reading today in NYC. Surprise!

This sounds fun...

I thought Spencer Kayden had been the one who had been with the show the whole time...but I guess not...

How would any of Lockstock's songs work as audition material?

Yes, Spencer was the only one in it from the Fringe but other cast members held over from Off Broadway to Broadway. pennywise-poundfoolish didn't mention being in the Fringe.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

You're right bythesword, I believe that everyone from the off Broadway company went to Broadway except Megan Lawrence because she was going to have her baby.

The first exposure I had to this show was their performance at the Tonys where I concluded from the little time that the cast was on stage, this was truly the season's best musical. An amazing cast... Foster, Opel, Kayden, Thompson... paired with a hilarious book and lyrics makes for an awesome cast recording that always has a place on my ipod.
Favorite song- Act 1 Finale... ahhh so gooooood!

I am not Tony winner Dan Fogler.

I adore this show to the ends of the earth! Urinetown is a beautiful piece of work and whenever I need to smile, I just pop in my Urinetown CD and all is good in the world. Hunter Foster should have won Best Leading Actor in a Musical that year easily, and Jeff McCarthy should have won Best Featured Actor in a Musical -- and neither were even nominated! Grr. "It's no way to live, I tells ya, no way to live!"

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
