Thanks for all the positive response, you guys!
Yes, I'm realizing now after reading all these comments just how wonderful of a show it is.
Specifically, I really really REALLY love songs with fast lyrics and repetative beats and rounds. So of course I fell in love with this show after listening to "The Cop Song." That always keeps my blood flowing.
I'm kicking myself for a memory I have 2 years ago. I was a freshman and had just arrived to college. The current show at A.C.T. in San Francisco was "Urinetown" and I was so turned-off by the name and didn't understand what I was looking at when I saw the advertisement in the subway station -- I seriously thought it was something like modern-art or a political statement with graffiti on it! I didn't KNOW it was a REAL SHOW advertisement...
Until about 3 months later when the show had come and gone and I had discovered the OBC Recording... and DIED! I was soooo angry at myself for not looking into it when it was in town!
Oh well, I still adore it!

This sounds fun...
I thought Spencer Kayden had been the one who had been with the show the whole time...but I guess not...

Spencer Kayden was the only cast member to have been in the Fringe, offBway and Broadway productions of Urinetown

Posted: 10/21/05 at 9:11pmYes, Spencer was the only one in it from the Fringe but other cast members held over from Off Broadway to Broadway. pennywise-poundfoolish didn't mention being in the Fringe.

The first exposure I had to this show was their performance at the Tonys where I concluded from the little time that the cast was on stage, this was truly the season's best musical. An amazing cast... Foster, Opel, Kayden, Thompson... paired with a hilarious book and lyrics makes for an awesome cast recording that always has a place on my ipod.
Favorite song- Act 1 Finale... ahhh so gooooood!

Posted: 10/22/05 at 12:25pmI adore this show to the ends of the earth! Urinetown is a beautiful piece of work and whenever I need to smile, I just pop in my Urinetown CD and all is good in the world. Hunter Foster should have won Best Leading Actor in a Musical that year easily, and Jeff McCarthy should have won Best Featured Actor in a Musical -- and neither were even nominated! Grr.
