Whoa, Baby! I can't wait for this one!!!
Playbill Article
It is sad that the O'neill workshop has turned to such blather. Mr. O'Neill himself would be appalled at the way they have misused his name. They work against everything he believed in..including the bombastic political games.
Kotis, who wrote Urinetown's book and additional lyrics, added, "[This new work] is unproduceable in the same way we thought Urinetown was unproduceable. Its subject matter is absurd and risque. But we do hope to see it produced."
unless of course the Christian Right decided urine is offensive.....
I loved Urinetown...and can't wait.
When we saw it, my partner who is one of the Broadway impaired, looked around the theater before it started and turned to me and said "Can't they afford to fix this place up?".
too funny
Oh, lighten up Sparky. O'Neill himself wasn't above low humor. Look at the genesis of the title for The Iceman Cometh.
sparky310 - What are you talking about? Did you see Urinetown? It's a lot more than just low humor. It was a highly intelligent show that had a lot to say about politics and society. I'm still puzzled as to how Millie beat it out for Best Musical. Urinetown was daring, challenging and provacative. How would this offend O'Nell?

Sparky's just a reactionary. Remember the "Bruce Vilanch gives all gay men a bad name" comment from yesterday? This is how he sees the world. Clearly unable to realize that lots of gay men give themselves a bad name. That's where his mirror should come in. And plenty more give themselves good names.
Vilanch is funny.
having studied o'neill for 30 years i think i am a fairly well equipped to state what i think is obvious..this was not the type of theate he would have prefered.
and by the way..the "lighten up" comment is very condescending..please dont do it again
a reactionary..really? on what grounds would you base that? because I disagree.
No more condescending than your attitude toward Urinetown and its authors. And you're speaking on behalf of Eugene O'Neill after studying his work for 30 years? How presumptuous.
I LOVE how people try to insulate themselves with the 'I've studied blah blah blah for so many years'. Still doesn't mean that you actually know what you're talking about.

As an amateur proctologist, I've studied buttholes for longer than I care to admit. And Sparky is one.
really you think so..have you been working in the business and considered an authority on the subject..i am...you and robbie are a bit to smart mouthed for your own good..take stock in the fact that some of us still study and apply our studies to the a field..and dont sit around on line badmouthing others who know their craft..and no one was bad mouthing urinetown..but it would not have been the thing Mr. O'Neill would have gravitated toward.....nough said.
