This is a real newbi question, but what is dreamgirls about. I know Bill Condon is directing (I loved Gods and Monsters and Kinsey) but what is the story?

He doesn't seem like the right fit...I was hoping for Terrance Howard or someone else.

Not knowing anything about the show, but I hope Terrence Howard gets it because he rocks in pretty much everything he's in (especially Hustle and Flow)

I will try to find a synopsis for you QMAN, just hang in there.
This movie is officially going on my "must not see" list. First Beyonce, then Usher. Yuck.

Thanks.
Does anybody know if that's official though. It may just be Beyonce talking about rumors because I heard Danny Glover was in it.

There is a "detailed" synopsis lower on the page. It pretty much says what you need to know.

Cool. Sounds like my kind of show. Hopefully they won't screw up the movie like another movie musical did (*cough* Phantom of the Opera *cough*)

^^^yes, "Phatom of the Opera" could have been done better.
But Dreamgirls will be good.

Okay, now they really are getting ridiculous. Does every part need to be filled by an R&B known talent?
There's so much undiscovered talent out there.

Usher is probably begging for the role of CC now. I saw the previews for his new movie and it looks a H.A.M.

I couldn't agree meore. And if they are worried about box office, shouldn't Murphy and Foxx be enough for the heavy lifting?
Bill Condon is very talented. But some of these moves just leave me speechless. I love the show so I hope my misgivings turn out ot be groundless.

From what I understand (and this is heresay, so take it for professional gossip), everything fell apart in the contract negotiations. It wasn't the MONEY that was the issue. Usher has plenty of that. Basically, I heard his "representatives" (aka, his momma) was asking for "more screen time," meaning let's beef up the part, adding scenes and/or songs for Usher.
Hey, this is called "Dreamgirls," not "The C.C. White Story." It's a supporting role with some very nice moments.
The creative team (Condon & company) refused to add or alter material JUST to please Usher's camp. It's not a variety show. It's a scripted musical with a focused, carefully balanced story.
SO... If it's true that they are back to the negotiation table again... let's hope he wants to actually play C.C., instead of trying to turn it into some newfangled leading role.
Also, there was a big legal issue with competing record labels. It's tough to iron out the contract issues, when you have recording stars under contract at different places. Everybody wants a piece of the pie. What a nightmare!

I think that Usher could be C.C. but I also think they should consider a unknown singer by the name of Ricky Fante. He has a good voice for the part and, "IF" he can act, this could bring him more exposure becuase his voice is amazing. He sort of reminds me of Marvin Gaye.

Why are you all worried about Usher ruining the film when it was already doomed when they cast Beyonce.
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.

Beyonce will make a great Deena.

I'm usually pretty kind when it comes to actors and performers, but I'm sorry, despite thinking that he has a decent voice and that he can dance, Usher just plain gets on my nerves.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
