There was no animus in my words. I think that Broadway per se' is the gold standard by which all other performances are measured. It is the big time. Sorry and regrettably I report that this was not of the caliber that I have come to expect from B'way in general or in connection with a piece of American lore. There is no intended Snarkiness planted in my words, rather the reflections of a fair guy feeling a sincere opinion.

One thing I find so disturbing is that Laurents had the choice of every talented actor in practically the whole world and he came up with Cavanaugh, Green and Akram who all sub par for their roles and Olivo who is the least talented dancer I have ever seen in that role.
It baffles the mind.
And I agree that if the actors have not "found" their footing by now, they never will.

cavenaugh seems to get roles because of...singing talent? noo..thats not it..huh. Oh his acting, cause his acting was amazing in grey gardens and catered affair....no no..that's not it either. ..shoot what was so prominent in all those Urban cowboy posters? for the LIFE of me I cannot remember what it was.
can anyone help me out here? Golly I just can't put my finger on it.

Golly I just can't put my finger on it.

But I bet you'd like to.

Kidding aside, I really enjoyed him in both GREY GARDENS and A CATERED AFFAIR. His singing style worked for those characters. I'm not sure how it would fit with Tony, though.

Is it in Cavanaugh's contract to take his shirt off in every Broadway Show he does?
Cause he has.

No, I think it's just the directors who cast him want to see him naked and this is as close as they can get by getting him to take his shirt off and disguising it as a directorial concept.

It's not as though he walks around the stage shirtless and flexing to show off- he sits up in bed post-sex and starts quickly dressing. Curtain, do you always leave your shirt on during sex? I would think it puts a damper on the mood when one person is half-clothed at all times.
