Valjean

I voted in error - I picked Colm Wilkinson as I didn't see Michael Ball on the list. Since Wilkinson won't do it, I would like to see Michael in the role. He is absolutely the finest tenor/baritone I've ever heard and he knows that role - has the experience necessary.

I'll agree with that re: Valjean

Michael has actually sang the role in a special concert at Windsor Castle. He was also an original cast member of Les Miserables ( creating the role of Marius)when it first opened in London.

I have to agree also. I think he can do the part well at this time. And made-up, he made a marvelous-looking Valjean.

I saw him in The Woman in White. He just blew me away. I want to see him in this production. Love Micahel Ball!

Not Ball, please! Marius might be suited for a sweet syrupy voice, Valjean is not.

Since Lestat will probably be closed by then, my vote goes to Hugh Panaro.

Michael Ball could do this I'm sure he is capable of having quite an edge to his voice if he wants to.

Hugh Panaro? He's kind of not the typical body-type for Valjean.

Not to the mention the fact that I think he has WAY too much of a young pretty-boy sound. Great for certain roles, but not Valjean.

I'm not entirely convinced Michael Ball is the right sound for the role either, but there's so much appropriate gimmicky-ness to him playing that role that I'd love to see it happen.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!

Sorry, I know "Stokes" has his admirers, but he's really getting on my nerves lately.

He just gets more scoopy and hammy by the minute.

^ Make him Javert. Then Hugh Panaro can do his weird Lestat walk as Valjean. Perfect.

GAH!!! MY EYES! MY EARS!!

I'd love to see James Barbour as Javert...but I honestly can't come up with a Valjean option that I'm happy with. Hmmmmmm....

Oh oh!! And Michael Arden as Marius.

But I know this is a Valjean thread, so we'll leave that one alone. :)

Actually I was thinking Cosette.

I'd love to see Manoel Felciano in this production (not Valjean though). Then again I'd love to see him in anything, especially boxers. re: Valjean

My vote goes to J. Mark McVey. I've seen him in the role and he's mighty fine. Michael Ball is more suited to Marius. I wonder how Robert Cuccioli was in the role of Jarvert... He was Jarvert to Robert Evan's Valjean at one time. Speaking of Robert Evan...I hear he's off to Korea in April with Jekyll & Hyde The Concert. J&H is quite a hit in Korea and Japan.

"Not Ball, please! Marius might be suited for a sweet syrupy voice, Valjean is not. "

Have you heard Michael Ball recently? His voice has come a looong way since his time as Marius. It's somewhat deeper and fuller, as evidenced in his performance as Count Fosco in The Woman in White. I think he's very capable of playing the role.

Poppy, Michael is a bit too old to play Marius now.

You know, I would kind of be surprised if they didn't bring in Michael Ball. He's a big name for the theatre community, and even though Les Mis will likely be sold out for it's 6 months I still can't imagine them bringing in just anybody.

And Colm will likely be busy with Pirate Queen.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with what little I heard of his "Who Am I" in the Windsor Castle miniseries on PBS. (except for his last note... re: Valjean )

i think it would be really cool to bring people in who were in the earlier casts in other roles..i like that idea..
i LOVE the idea of Judy Kuhn as Fantine..but i am biased cause she is my ULTIMATE favorite singer EVER!!! and i like the idea of a marius from years ago playing valjean...michael ball...he IS amazing.
my favorite Valjean of ALL time was JC Sheets. absolutely STUNNING performance and i have seen MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANY Valjeans.
and then maybe have a baby cosette who has grown up and is still a performer come back and be cosette..like Lacey Chabert...and a gavroche come back and be marius. and ashley simpson as eponine..just kidding..but actually...hmm...mandy moore? ahahh.
ah..i just love les miz..its my all time favorite show, but for me..its another round of "WHY CAN'T I BE IN THIS SHOW?????!!!!!!!!!!!!! AGAIN!!!!" i was so peaceful when it closed! LOL!!! its a sad sad thing for me to have never walked on the turntable! *sniff* i'm ok..really..i am........i'll be fine.

"I'd love to see Michael Ball play the role."

Ditto...love to see him back on Broadway and he can sing this role. He's the perfect age now and there's a certain poeticism to having the performer who played Marius in the original cast (and at the 10th Anniversay) play Valjean at the 21st. Michael has history with the production, but would be a fresh face and voice as Valjean.

Would be interesting to see BSM as Javert I think...
