Sutton and Cheno have the best vibratos. Michael Ball's can really get on my nerves sometimes, and David Hasselhoff gives me a migrane with his.

I love Jayne Patterson's....anyone know of her?
Agreed. David Hasselfhoff is ridculous, though I don't even consider him a Broadway actor. He sounds decent when he doesnt do vibratto, but ugh! In "This is The Moment" I wanted to cry.
I have to agree -
For a tie between worst male vibrato - I would have to say it's between David Hasselhoff (who sounds like a nanny goat when he attmepts it) and Mandy Patinkin who just overdoes it. (The Forbidden Broadway segment "Somewhat Overindulgent" is just the tip of the iceburg in my opinion)
For best Female - I would have to say it is a tie between both Christianne Noll and Linda Eder. Patti LuPone has one of the worst in my opinion. It sounds forced, which defeats the whole purpose of vibrato.
Cheers,
The Balladeer
Best: Varla Jean Merman. Who else can sustain such a controlled vibrato while consuming a can of cheez whiz?
the best vibrato ever:
Judy Garland
the worst vibrato ever:

Two words...
LINDA EDER
She will always be the best in my book.
And I disagree with those you say they do not like Christine Andreas. I found her vibrato in Scarlet Pimpernel to be enjoyable. Maybe it is just me. I emjoy the heaviness of it. It reminds me of the french singers of the day.

"Its not bway (and I am embarresed that I watched this) but Carmen on American Idol 2! Her vibrato is insane, it is way out of control and sounds like a goat!"
THANK GOD! Someone else actually heard it too! I kept wondering why no one on the show said anything?? I can't believe she lasted as long as she did!
Anyways...BoxOfficeJon...I think I love you! I will add my two words to yours: LINDA EDER
Her voice is just the silver lining on every cloud for me. :c)

Funny you should say that, I told someone just this morning that her music is the soundtrack to my life. And if it were not for her, I would have fallen in love and made it through breakups and danced my ass off in nightclubs. She is amazing and I love her. (And I get to see her in Baltimore in a month!!! whoo hoo!)

I'm sorry, I'm not a singer and don't know a great deal about it...what's vibrato??
*cringes at possible condescending answers*
I just want to learn!
It is a "tremulous or pulsating effect created in an instrumantal or vocal tone by barely perceptible minute and rapid variations in pitch".
Now for the condescending answer:
What is a Dictionary?

Heh, that might have been the less embarrassing road to take, huh. *blushes* Thank you for answering though!
I'm reading this in Paris and just had to respond..
Worst: definitely Christine Andreas, I never understood her appeal.
I've heard of Jayne Patterson and agree that she has a nice voice.
I can think of several other ex-Les Miz people with vibratos that are not nearly as nice to listen to, but I feel bad naming names.
