I swear she was in two different programs from two different shows. Maybe one wasn't ACL after all. Well, I'll check. I tried to check last night and almost pulled a muscle getting that box out. Maybe later. :)
Her website may jog your memory!

I saw "Light In the Piazza" last month for the first time and I was completely blown away by Victoria Clark's performance! She's just incredible!
I'll be at the 8:30 show on Friday.
She's too fabulous for words.

Despite having a pretty bad case of laryngitis, I managed to get over to the Allen Room (which is, luckily, right around the corner from my place) for the late show last night. The performance was sold out and Vicki was INCREDIBLE. Kelli O'Hara and Harry Connick Jr. were both in attendance (although they arrived late), as was most of the cast of Piazza. Songs included a stirring rendition of "A Wonderful Guy" from South Pacific; Rodgers and Sondheim's "Do I Hear a Waltz"; as well as "Fable" from Piazza. She also sang several songs by Jeff Blumenkrantz, including one entitled "Victoria's Secret".
All in all, an unforgettable evening.
I was at the 8:30 show, and it was one of the most beautiful evenings I have EVER experienced.
The valentine to her son had me in tears, and the hymn with which she ended the program was a true gift to us all.
She looked stunning, had a wonderful sense of humor, shared a deep and meaningful part of her life with us and was in gorgeous voice. Put it in the jewel of a setting that is the Allen Room, and you have a romantic evening like none other.
Brava on your NY concert performance debut, Victoria!
And thank you.
(ps: she has a cute brother! )
The hymn, "How Can I Keep From Singing?", is a favorite of mine. They sing it every week at my parents' church.
I adored the arrangement of that hymn. What a special way to end the program.
What a delicious performer - exuding warmth and charisma, elegance and hoydenish sass (Filicia is right- here's our next MAME). What a treat to hear some of my favorite songs (I have no idea why "Hold Me Hold Me Hold Me" is so seldom performed), capped my a magical "They Say It's Wonderful" and a thrilling and heartfelt "How Can I Keep From Singing".
I knew from PIAZZA she could break your heart, but I never knew how FUNNY she was.
A comic highlight was "Victorias' Secret", written by her friend Jeff Blumenkrantz. An updated version of "They're Either Too Young or Too Old", it became an audience participation rom (in the same vein as Jeff's "My Book") where Victoria decided to find a date for Valentines Day "right here, in my American Songbook Concert!" She asked the men in the audience to raise their hands, then to determine which were unattached straight men, she gave orders: "If you were born after 1975, lower your hand...if remember when Hitler was alive, lower your hand...if you have tickets to Bernadette, lower your hand..."

I'm very jealous of all of you that are getting to see her concert. I think she is breathtaking in "LITP". I am actually curious to see her direct something. I remember reading a story on her that stated she had been trying to move more into directing when the "LITP" opportunity arose.
Master - were you at the 8:30 or 10:30 concert? Did she have success at yours?
It was a FUN patter song... we all had lots of laughs with Victoria's Secret.
Giant pandas. I'll never think of them quite the same way again...
HA! I know, AdGal! The idea of rampaging pandas...
I was at the 8:30 show. I wish I knew a cool single straight man for her...I mean, if you were a straight guy, wouldn't you want to date Vickie?!
That's what my friend said, too.
I was at the 8:30 show, also. That guy in the back who had his hand raised the whole time looked cute!
(I'm a straight girl, and I think I want to date Vickie after last night... LOL! )
Were any other BWWers there last night?
I am so excited because I will finally see her in piazza on march 9th. I just booked tickets, and cannot wait.
Ok, here I go....long time viewer of the BWW Boards, but never a 'poster.'
Feeling moved to finally 'speak up' after I attended the 10:30 concert and had a fabulous time. I was so impressed with the way Ms. Clark swept the audience away with her through an evening of laughs, tears, and great, great music. I thought it was a great melding of several different kinds of song writers and I was particularly impressed with Jane Kelly William's pieces. (I had never heard her work before, but how great was "15 Seconds of Grace"?)
Ms. Clark's genuine kindness and grace beamed through every piece. In every interview I've seen or heard with her, I've been so impressed with the way she seems to incorporate and meld her spirituality into her work, family, life, etc. Its a characteristic I greatly admire in addition to her wonderful voice and stage presence.
Welcome to BWW, nycsarahd! Enjoy your participation here.
Thank you for your post!
Addy, I'm so jealous that you were there. Thanks for sharing with us (which I guess is the next best thing to being there).
Add me to the ever increasing group of jealous posters. Oh, how I would have LOVED to see Victoria's concert. She truly was amazing "Piazza."
First of all, I'm BLESSED to have been able to attend Victoria's concert debut (and I got to see the official 1st one, the 8:30 PM show) with a fantastically generous friend!
There's not much to add to what other people have already said: Victoria walked onstage and claimed it, and the audience, for the length of the concert. She was gorgeous, top to bottom, and at the top of her performing game.
Someone mentioned not knowing she was so funny...but she sort of made her mark being the funny. Piazza has been a (most welcome) departure for her...and anyone who's seen it should see the wonderful glimpses of comedy she gives in every performance.
Her song choices were wonderful and she put together a fantastic mix of old (that opening Rodgers medley was perfection!) and new (her friends/composers, including Ricky Ian Gordon, who did not sing with her).
I have to admit, I was hoping all night she'd do Fable. The song only loses a smidgeon of its potency outside the context of the show but it was wonderful. Let's also not forget her absolutely FABULOUS little mini-orchestra.
All in all, a fantastic evening.
that concert was awesome! I was at the 8:30 shows and loved the old ladies who were back by me trying to tell Vickie that there was also an old man with his hand raised. I also enjoyed watching Jeff Blumenkrantz run in and out of the back so he could watch the concert when he wasn't performing.
