1. The best is going to cost you. Liz Caplan charges (I believe) around $200 a lesson.
2. Not much is going to happen in a few lessons. Voice lessons are (in both these points) like therapy- expensive and long-term.
3. It's hard to get appointments, especially for 2 or so lessons. Liz Caplan has a 2 year waitlist, unless you have a referral. Assuming you don't have Cheyenne Jackson on speed dial, you're not going to get a lesson.

I would recommend Beth Falcone, I believe she charges around $100 a lesson?

She could have a pretty long wait list though, not sure. I've worked with her through Circle In The Square Theater School and she is great!

I think you are asking for two different things. Coachings and lessons are terms that are not interchangeable. A lesson is technique focused: how do I make my voice sound the way I want it to. A coaching deals with matters of interpretation/making the piece uniquely yours.
Also, please provide more on your voice type, range, what kind of stuff you're typically singing, what problems you want to address, etc.

Thanks all for your responses. I Know technique is a long term work and I do it all the time here in my city. I was just looking for someone to listen to me and give me some interpretation guidance, how to face a song, specially from someone working with musical theatre singers due to musical theater singing in my country is not that high quality (in my humble opinion)
Thanks again to all of you

Oh so you want song interp then?
I would definitely recommend Kimberly Vaugn then!
Google her, she should be the first thing to come up!
She teaches at the voice studio!
Enjoy!

Posted: 1/15/11 at 2:37pmI was going to suggest Kimberley Vaughn as well, but someone beat me to it. She does exactly what you're looking for - it's not about the technique, it's about the performance of the song. She's wonderful and I can't recommend her highly enough. I believe she teaches weekly classes so you may be able to get in on one of those and you would get to watch other performers as well as getting to work on your own material, which is often even more helpful.

Yes, you are right, she teaches every Wednesday i believe, and always brings in someone with her too usually. I know she has close ties to Adam Guettel of The Light In the Piazza and she works along side him a lot.

This is her website
Call her number, she is great about getting back to people, and if you can't get into a class, i'm sure she will try to fit you in at her studio.

As a New York vocal coach, I have to point out that there is a major difference between a Vocal Coaching and a Voice Lesson.
I do not proclaim to be a voice teacher in anyway. In fact, I often instruct my clients that if a passage is truly physically uncomfortable, they should work on it with a teacher and I'd gladly make myself available to accompany them at that lesson.
In my sessions, the songs are already on their feet - we talk about how to prepare it for an audition, performance, etc. The acting, dynamics, etc come into play, rather than actual technique.
Not trying to sell myself as you're clearly looking for someone with a great deal of experience, but want to point out that you could find yourself in a situation you don't want to be unless you make it more clear...
I can recommend some great coaches if that's what you want, but teachers -- I'm afraid I can't recommend more than what's been said.

Badiene Magaziner only charges $165 an hour and she is RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING! In a month she got me from a G to a D AND referred me to some of the top coaches - most of which you CANT GET an appt with unless you know someone. Shes awesome. I highly recommend her.
