If you go to the website it says, "A Note To All Rent Fans
During the period of the Broadway stagehand strike Voices for Rent will be offline, apologies for any inconvenience. "
I'm sorry is it me or is that bizarre? Not that I care or anything it's kind of funny but I was just curious as to why a website would need to shut down during a STAGEHAND strike.
Maybe they did it to cut down on the rumors that Rent will close because of the strike. Because we all know how much VFR loves its rumors.
(Obviously if you're "curious" as to why, then yes, you do care. )
How weird! Local One runs Affinitive?
Well, I won't complain if anything shuts down V4R...even a strike.

i agree with emcee... the website was going crazy with closure rumors.
LOL, it was? I didn't even know that was true. I just guessed. HAHA. They would.
Their home page message should also be two sentences. Oy!
"(Obviously if you're "curious" as to why, then yes, you do care. )"
fair enough, perhaps "mind" would have been a better word.

Oh yes, I think my favorite post on there was something along the lines of, "what can fans do to not close rent? I'll be a stagehand if I have to, I mean does rent even need stagehands anyway? It has such a small set. But they can't close it early because that wouldn't be respectful to Jonathan Larson and the fans would be upset if they didn't get notice." You'd think I'm exaggerating, it really was like that only the grammar was worse. good times.
Do they really, honestly think that the show would close without an absolutely HUGE sendoff? That a run like that would just end without massive celebration and a whole big deal?
Right.
I hope it's still there in December as I want to see it again.
And this is how such rumors get started. Because now someone is going to be all "ZOMG WHAT DO YOU KNOW?! WHY DO YOU THINK IT MIGHT NOT BE AROUND IN DECEMBER?! IS IT GOING TO CLOSE??!?! AHHHH."
WAIT A SEC!!!! ZOMG WHAT DO YOU KNOW?! WHY DO YOU THINK IT MIGHT NOT BE AROUND IN DECEMBER?! IS IT GOING TO CLOSE??!?! AHHHH.

I thought it closed when Adam and Anthony left
heh, heh.
wait wait wait - someone is offering to become a stagehand so that Rent (which isn't closing anyway) can stay open? What a great time to enter that profession...kudos to them
Case in point.
ZOMG! Does that mean like Legally Blonde will close to?! I would like just DIE if that happened!!!!!
*end sarcasm*

I'm still unsure as to what "ZOMG" actually means. I don't see the need for the Z

It could also be because the website is run by the producers and they want to save money.
i would assume leaving it open to entertain all the bickering and constantly checking to see if ZOMG RENTZ LYKE CLOSING would increase money.
Another good v4r story, i once wrote on a board that Rent was closing in 3 days and that hairspray and wicked were both moving to the Nederlander and taking turns each night. And people believed me! I wasn't even trying to mess with fangirls it was just pure sarcasm.

How would more posts make money? Posts and site views don't generate revenue.

and they are paying for the domain name still anyway.
If anything the fans should be happy the tired old cast members get a chance to rest their voices. I'm sure about half (if not more) have been singing that score off and on for more years than they would care to admit.
doesn't traffic for the site make money? Sorry if I'm wrong I don't really know much about the internet as a business.

They're paying for the domain name, but I'm sure their server charges for used bandwidth increase when people actually post... unless their company actually owns a server or they're paying a flat fee for bandwidth, both of which I'd guess are somewhat unlikely. Still, hosting fees are so minor in the grand scheme of things that I doubt the temporary shutdown was due to the producers trying to cut corners in this area, even if the image of the producers trying to be as cheap as possible is amusing. If VFR wasn't shut down right now.. there would be about 10 times as many threads about RENT closing as there usually is.
Don't get me wrong, I love VFR, but that site would be crazy right about now.
So the kiddos piss the mods off enough for them to shut it down temporarily? Wow.
