The Arthur Laurents-directed revival of WEST SIDE STORY will have it's out-of-town tryout at Washington DC's National Theater from December 2, 2008 - January 4, 2009. It will then begin Broadway previews in February, 2009 at a theater to be announced.
Patrick Vaccariello will musical direct and Joey McKneely will recreate Jerome Robbins' original choreography.

We know already, but it's nice to spread the word. :)
YES! Finally an out-of-town tryout here.
Well, there was a little show called Les Misérables that did its pre-Broadway tryout in DC...
Jeffrey Sellers is so hot.
Now I'm remembering some shows I saw during tryouts in D.C.
Annie (the original)
42nd Street
Annie II (Hannigan's Revenge)
Whistle Down the Wind
Martin Guerre
Crazy for You
Funny that the Nederlanders are producing, but its playing its tryout at the National, which is a Shubert house.
Either way, this is interesting.
A "radically new" West Side Story?
Maybe Laurents will pull from John Doyle, and have the actors play instruments.
BUT, to make it cooler, they will be DANCING INSTRUMENTS.
