You know, that's the only omission that really upsets me. It surely deserved it over FIDDLER!

Little Shop was a horrible production apart from the plant effects. It seems the fans of this production are usually people that have never seen it live before and little else to compare it to.
I loved the Fiddler revival though.. a really beautiful production I thought.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 12:08pmActually, I've seen LITTLE SHOP performed many many times. I thought the current Broadway production was a lot of fun! I left in a good mood and humming the songs. Isn't that what we're supposed to do after a good musical?

Posted: 5/10/04 at 12:13pmThe revival of "Little Shop" was a cheesy show. It completely Disneyfied all the edgy material and featured an Audrey in Kerry Butler so woefully lacking in energy, charm, poignance or anything else required by the role (except a big voice, but much more than a big voice) that all alone she would have sunk the production even if everything else were perfect. Hunter Foster was okay but too much the Ivy Leaguer slumming on the lower East side and wearing nerdy clothes from J.Press. A misbegotten production and one which did not deserve a nomination. I haven't seen "Fiddler" but understand it's lame. Why not just three nominations?

I've seen high schools put on productions of Little Shop that were better...
Where is JOE MANTELLO? How can WICKED get nominated for Best Musical without honoring its director?!

"Where is JOE MANTELLO? How can WICKED get nominated for Best Musical without honoring its director?!"
Because it's not especially well directed?

Posted: 5/10/04 at 12:40pmSad so sad for LSOH! I hope it can make it through the summer!
#13re: WHAT??!?!??!?? NO LITTLE SHOP?!?!?!?!?!
Posted: 5/10/04 at 1:23pmDont worry about LSOH... you'll be able to see it down the street at some local community college or high school... and it will most likely be better.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 1:44pmThe only thing that could have made this incarnation of Little Shop more childish was if everyone was wearing skates and it took place on ice. Good move by the nominators. It had so much potential and fell so far short.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 3:10pmI disagree...I think Kerry is doing an AMAZING job in Little Shop. I wish people would lay off her. She was robbed of not only the Tony nomination but the win last year, and I think shes doing a heck of a job in Little Shop

Posted: 5/10/04 at 3:58pmI'm disappointed that Little Shop didn't get at least a nomination. Oh well, I'm sure the cast of Little Shop isn't going to stop with that show -- they will all get their dues eventually!
#21re: WHAT??!?!??!?? NO LITTLE SHOP?!?!?!?!?!
Posted: 5/10/04 at 4:03pmThey sealed their fate with LS the second they hired Kerry Butler to play Audrey (sorry Craig, it's the truth) and it was all downhill from there. I'm not surprised. I am surprised by them choosing to nominate Hunter Foster. It was a *fine* performance but hardly, imo, Tony worthy. Again, blame it on a soft season.

"Again, blame it on a soft season."
I thought this was a strong season? I mean, they even got to EXCLUDE things!

They owe Hunter for his omission in Urinetown.
I think LSHOP was one of the most entertaining shows this year and I wish my high school production turned out as good as that! Poor Kerry. I will admit however out of all her roles, Audrey isnt her strongest, but she took the role anyway because it was a challenge. I think she did a great job, just as good as Ellen Green.
The cast in general was so energetic and powerful and I think the Tony Awards at least owe a nomination for all the hard work the amazing urchants put into the production. They were so awesome. I loved LSOH. I'm with you- I was just as shocked. I mean I did think that Big River could snab the nomination over LSOH because it was an original type of revival. But it still sucks. Just nominate all five!
