WHAT??!?!??!?? NO LITTLE SHOP?!?!?!?!?!

Posted: 5/10/04 at 4:18pmHaving seen all five revivals this season, I'd have to say they should have left out Fiddler which was a very uninspiring production. Little Shop was just a pure fun night at the theatre. Fiddler is a better SHOW, so thats how it made the cut.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 4:21pmThe show was cheesy? I don't think Menken and Ashman meant it to be REALISTIC. Usually a show thats written involving a talking plant isn't going to be a reality check. Anyone surprised about no nom for Sills?

NO, it's not supposed to be realistic. It's campy though, not cheesey. The production was pretty cheesey. The intended satire and camp of the show seemed lost. It was entertaining nonetheless, though I can't say whether it deserved a nomination or not.
It never would've won anyway...not with Assassins and Wonderful Town around.

A nomination would still be nice to have.
I think its a race between Wonderful Town and Assasins. If Donna doesnt get the Tony Award, they are going to need to award her performance in some way so best revival would be nice, but Assassins got Sondheim screwed over (he's not elligble for Best Score) and it is supposedly the best show this season. Who knows? Leave that up to June 6th.

I didn't expect Kerry to get nominated, although I kinda hoped that she would be, but to only get one nomination for the whole show! Was it really that terrible?? (and I don't want a response from lilhead, we all know what you think and have heard it plenty of times)
lol I remember when I was younger when I just assumed that everything was nominated because I thought there were about 5 shows on Broadway. Yeah, I was stupid.....

I'm not surprised about LSOH being absent from the Best Revival list. Uninspired.
FIDDLER should not be getting such a bad rap. I had a wonderful time seeing it. I was expecting 3 hours of this typical, endless warhorse, but was thoroughly entertained. The design for the show is most definitely worthy of the nominations it received.
WONDERFUL TOWN, I thought, was particularly lackluster. I'm shocked to see Jennifer Westfeldt nominated over the two supporting women from AVENUE Q and over Randy Graff for FIDDLER. Bland, bland, bland one-note ingenue. I kept thinking that dozens of other actresses could have been much more interesting in the role of Eileen.
Not at all surprised to see Douglas Sills overlooked. I was amazingly unimpressed with his performance in LSOH. I never thought of Orin the Dentist as a flamboyant queen before. I didn't think it worked at all. (Granted, I don't think it was intentionally played that way... that's just how it seemed to me.)
I wish Rick Lyon from AVENUE Q was recognized for his performance, and for his puppet artistry.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 4:58pmlol It's funny that several of you have said that you might as well just go see a high school production of this show because we are doing it next fall and, well....my high school is not exactly known for our outstanding musicals....to say the least...

Posted: 5/10/04 at 6:20pmI'm not surprised that Doug Sills was overlooked either. I'm more surprised that certain actors in Assassins were overlooked.

Does anyone know who will be in the touring company that's coming to Los Angeles?
LINK: Tracy, you look beautiful behind bars
TRACY: It must be the low-watt institutional lighting

We all knew that Kerry wasn't going to be nominated, because she wasn't a hit with the critics, or with the fans. I think Hunter deserves his nomination; he works hard in the show, and he's been with it for a while, and he's dedicated himself to making Seymour his own. I am suprised that there was no nomination for Sills, too.
I am SHOCKED, though, that it didn't get nominated for Best Revival.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 9:09pmHis reaction statement on Broadway.com isnt even that happy. He didnt want to be the only one nominated from the show.
#40re: WHAT??!?!??!?? NO LITTLE SHOP?!?!?!?!?!
Posted: 5/10/04 at 9:14pmI wouldn't blame him, and I totally see where he's coming from. If there are a few nominations for a show, you can all enjoy and be excited together. He just knows that everyone else has worked really hard, and they all deserve recognition for what they've done. I hope it doesn't ruin it for him, though. He deserves it.

it would be best musical-that's probably why. it's the first time it's ever been done on Broadway, said Hunter.
so kerry wasn't nominated? lemme go check.........

Posted: 5/10/04 at 9:38pmI hated the Little Shop revival almost as much as I hated Fiddler. They were both processed cheese. Neither of them deserve a tony nomination.

Kerry Butler was miscast, and who expected any more than Sills and Foster? But no Sills.
Kerry was dissed last year, and she did deserve the nom ONLY then.
She performed "Green" like it was her "Now I've tasted chocolate.." number, and was obviously no better than Alice Ripley could have been.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 10:18pmI don't know if I really care or not, but I say they just should have thrown LSOH in there. They probably wouldn't win, but they should at least be nominated.
