I caught the 1st preview of this. I thought it was quite good. Really nothing like what I was expecting. The use of form here, while not exactly groundbreaking, is more unconventional than what we usually see at MTC. I also usually don’t like shows that are mostly narration, but I thought this one pulled it off. It actually made me cry in the end!
I posted more detailed thoughts here
Anyone else see it yet?

Seeing it in November, Chris Myers is usually worth the cost of a ticket for whatever he is in

Saw this last night and agree with Joe here. I’m not usually a big fan of narration/monologue-heavy shows but thought this was really lovely and ultimately quite moving. The performances are fantastic and saw raw, honest, and vulnerable. And the use of music throughout is stunning and magical. The Bengson’s score is another winner. Beautiful set as well. It’s very simple. Storytelling in its simplest form—telling stories and playing music to an audience. Judging from the sniffles coming from around the audience, I gather I was not the only one moved.

This was probably the best work I’ve seen from Chris Myers - a really strong, deeply-felt performance. And Billy Eugene Jones is as impressive as ever. Between this, Fat Ham, and On Sugarland, Jones is quickly becoming one of my favorite working stage actors. I know he’s had an extensive career, but I feel like he’s only recently broken onto my radar in a big way. That, or he’s only now starting to getting roles that match his talent.
